High-quality, good value in a 3-blade pocket knife,

This review is from: Gerber 22-01035 3-Blade Stag Stockman Fine Edge Lock-Back Pocket Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
You get good value for the price with this high-quality, three-blade pocket knife. Having lost my single-blade pocket knife, I jumped on this great Amazon deal.
Features I like: * The Sheep Foot and Spey blades are sturdy for their size and close firmly; * The longest blade (2.75") comes with a locking mechanism; * The knife features a genuine stag handle (that provides a textured grip) and filigree etched bolsters. The knife is longer (6.13") and heavier (2.6 ounces) than my single-blade Old Timer but the knife still fits in the coin pocket of my Levi 501 jeans. Rating: Five stars. If you prefer a smaller pocket knife, I recommend my last pocket knife Schrade 3OTB Old Timer Buffalo Horn Bear Head, which is also available on Amazon. The Old Timer features a 2.2-inch stainless steel blade (3" closed) and weighs 1.5 ounces. It has Buffalo Horn handles with nickel silver bolsters and Old Timer inlay shield.

Thanks to the reviews on Amazon, I knew in advance that this Gerber was made in China. I ordered it fully prepared to send it back. However, after receiving it, there's no way it's going back. The fit and finish on this knife easily compares to that on Bulldog's, Hen & Rooster's, Queen, Case and perhaps even Schatt & Morgan. For those who know fine folders, that's saying a lot. What makes this one so impressive is that it sells for a third to a fourth of what those other brands sell for and actually has a few features not found on most small stockmen knives such as a locking main blade and etched bolsters. My sample "walks and talks", meaning that even the two slipjoint blades snap into place with the proper click. A caution on price, I've seen this knife for sale from $12 to $35 so pick your best deal. The one thing I don't like about it is the Sambar Stag handles, while handsome, are considerably thicker than what I've come to expect on a small stockman knife. This means it's a fat little thing that does create a minor pocket bulge and is perhaps a bit heavier than it really needs to be. But, at less than $20 with free shipping, I'd say this is a no-brainer. I may even order more of these as gifts.

It's nice looking knife and has nice feel to it. The one we got has a locking mechanism that is hard to use. It is almost impossible to push on the switch hard enough to close the knife -- I have to use a pencil to push it in.
