4.0 out of 5 stars Gerber Mini Covert
The Gerber Mini Covert knife seems to be well-made and has a sharp edge. It's style is just what it should be to be "covert." I am a little disappointed in the opening assist mechanism because it's hard for me to start the process with only the thumb tab. Most of the time, the blade swings up only to hit one of my other fingers and stop the locking action. Also, I had...

2.0 out of 5 stars Gerber quality has slipped
I bought this knife and, frankly, loved it. The "quick-draw" feature is great and works well for me; the size and design were just what I wanted. HOWEVER, the tiny screws come loose after only a couple months of light use. I haven't used the knife for five months now because the sides slide around - I don't have a small enough tool to tighten them. I'd assume that...

Also, I had to lubricate the locking tab with some light machine oil to make it operate smoothly. I really like the knife, but it's not as easy to use as I had hoped it would be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Gerber quality has slipped, August 28, 2011

I bought this knife and, frankly, loved it. The "quick-draw" feature is great and works well for me; the size and design were just what I wanted. HOWEVER, the tiny screws come loose after only a couple months of light use. I haven't used the knife for five months now because the sides slide around - I don't have a small enough tool to tighten them. I'd assume that this were a fluke, had it not also happened to a couple of acquaintances of mine. One of the other guy's screws actually fell out and Gerber sent him some new ones. These are not issues that a quality knife should have.
The features of the knife save it from just one star.

2.0 out of 5 stars Falls short, December 14, 2011

When reviewing other posts for this knife I expected a good folder that was sharp and cold be used in a self defense situation. What I got was an OK knife for 35 dollars. The mechanism for opening the knife is very stiff and seems like it grinds a little. Also the sharpness of the knife out of the box was extremely poor. I have a Kershaw leek that I have been using for the past couple of months that I have only lightly sharpened and it is far sharper than the brand new Gerber one I just got. I also bought the larger version of this same knife and it has the same issues that this one does. For the price I would recommend going with another knife. I will keep this knife and put an edge on the blade myself. I am a little worried about the opening mechanism though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect but spring sounds ill, November 30, 2011

Very nice knife! Bought this versus the full size Covert because I wanted something small, light and low profile. It fits the bill perfectly for that. Four stars only due to the noise of the action.

Pros: lightweight, textured handles very grippy, opens quickly, useful lock and safety features, SHARP blade, rides low in the pocket

Cons: small if you want a "full size" knife, requires an awkward hold to get my right thumb to the thumb stud, spring sound when opening and closing is noisy and cheap sounding, lock button is tough and I need to push with my thumbnail often to get it to close, is not available in a straight blade (not serrated)

If your hands are wet or greasy you will never get the lock button to move without your nail. You may have a hard time opening the knife (one-handed) too based on the thumb stud, but that's common among many of these knives.

Overall this is the perfect "pocket" knife for me. Doesn't make me look a tough guy sticking way out of my pocket, is so light I barely notice it, but is solid and useful when I need it.

**Update: After ~2 months of use the knife has developed a wiggle in the blade, side to side, despite the torx screws being tight. Took a star away for this considering I don't exactly abuse this knife and its durability is surely questionable at this point.

I have owned this knife before, in the mini-covert version w/o the F.A.S.T. technology. It was a great knife but I moved on. When I saw this new version, I jumped at the opportunity to try it out. The first one I received did not hold up to expectations. Straight out of the box, the F.A.S.T. was binding so I sent it back. Amazon quickly shipped me out a replacement. This on was much better. Sharp, smooth and nice looking. A good size and sharp blade. I'm impressed so far. I'll try to update the review in a few months. Thanks for taking care of the order Amazon.

when I saw the photot and the announcement of this knife, I really wanted. Once there, it is superb!

Security is very good, although the blade so not even in the pocket
thank you to stack for this magnificent knife
Now I'll see if the mechanism works in a while ...

The Gerber Mini Covert knife is solid. It is well built and the spring action, fast open function is extremely cool. The blade looks stealthy with it's black finish and polished edge. The pocket clip is tight without tearing up your pocket. The locking action is exactly what you'd hoped. All around, I like this knife and carry it regularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, July 11, 2011

This knife is easy to use. Turn off safety and it flicks open very easy. Definitely a knife to keep around. A bit bulkier (thicker) than a non-assisted opening knife, but still fits in a pocket easily.

Excellent product, well made. It's compactness make it very versatile. The safety also works as the blade lock and the carbon fiber grips are not only attractive but they work even when wet. Another Gerber success!!
