I purchased the Gerber Remix with the fine edge and with the serrated edge after I read about them in the January or February '09 issue of "Outdoor" magazine (Essentials section).

However, when I received the knives, I noticed that the sliding lock mechanism on the serrated blade knife did not always engage and lock the blade.

I'm not sure if the spring is just weak or if it is just a poor design. I will note that the locking mechanism on the fine edge Remix locks just fine. But, the knife is new. I'm wondering what will happen to the locking mechanism, as a whole, once the knife is exposed to saw dust, grease, - heck, pocket lint. All the parts that make up the locking mechanism are exposed and debris interfering with the safe operation of the knife is foreseeable.

I own many, many Gerber knives. From the LMF II to the tiny LST. Very disappointed in this knife. It is a shame, too. The fingerhole provides a grip that makes the knife beg to be used.

Great knife, HOWEVER. If you keep the knife on your pocket keep it outside of your pocket. I use to wear the knife inside my left pocket. One day I put my hand in my pocket a sliced down the side of my left hand. The knife was new and was very sharp. The knife had opened just enough to expose the tip. Took three steri strips to close up the slice.

The Gerber Remix is a beautiful knife... all metal, with a lustrous combination of finishes, a great blade shape, sharp edge, and that huge, stylish finger hole. Unfortunately, it's also a piece of junk. The blade pivot feels like it's full of glue, the lock is awkward, and the metal edges, although smooth to the touch, are rough on your hands if you try to access anything in the pocket you've clipped the knife to. THE BLADE LIKES TO OPEN OF IT'S OWN ACCORD. I've not stabbed myself, but I've come REALLY close. Gerber should recall all these knives. Seriously.

Just an FYI... my late father was a professional custom knife maker, and I have a lot of experience with fixed and folding blades, for every use from utility to collecting rare edged weapons. I had a funny feeling when I bought this knife, and I should have followed it, put the bleepin' thing back in the display case, and picked out one of Gerber's GOOD knives, of which they have many.

This knife caught my eye at a retail store so I went home and saved the 20 bucks by ordering it on amazon instead. The first thing you notice is the very slick design. I really like the Remix style regardless of the fact that it may be slightly less convenient. The issue I had was how ridiculous it was to open and close. The giant circle in the middle is in the way so it's nearly impossible to open because you can't figure out how to hold it. Being left handed that was made even more difficult because the clip that is removable but not swappable was also in the way. Another thing I really didn't like with the locking mechanism is when the knife is closed it pushes very hard on the blade making me wonder how long until either of those pieces could break. I ordered another Gerber knife where they had addressed this issue with a tiny embedded ball bearing that kept everything where it should be. I do not doubt the quality of this knife or any Gerber products, just the practicality of their use.

I must have lucked out because my knife was in perfect condition with the updated locking mechanism, no rust, no dents or dings. Nice handle, nice design. Extremely sharp and the finger loop is awesome for what I will use the knife for like cutting through radiator hoses, shrink wrap, etc. Very very pleased with this purchase. Highly recommended.

one of the best folding knives i've ever own. I carry and use it everyday. Very light weight, very sturdy , and well made.

i like it alot, i mean it works well and looks really nice. But they sent me the straight edge by mistake and it was a little dirty when I opened it up. The only thing i think i dont like about it is that it is really hard to open one-handed, so I will give it four stars for that.

I very impressed with not only the solidity of this knife but it is extremely sharp. The only complaint I have is that apon arrival it looks as if it was dropped either @ the factory or in the store.

I really wanted this knife to work out and write a stellar review. Unfortunately the Gerber Remix falls so sadly short. The big loop for the pointer finger gives great control, it's sharp, BUT you can't open or close this with one hand, even difficult to open with two hands.. What a colossal waste of effort and resources to produce a sub-par product.

Do not get this. You will be losing your money just to return it.

This is a cool knife and Gerber just reworked the blade lock.
