I am uploading 2 pictures to show the current state of Gerber's manufacturing skill. This knife used to be much better.
Near the tip of the blade, the edge grind is horribly one-sided. Near the base of the blade, the edge has been ground nearly 1/8" more than necessary. It almost looks like it had been used for years and re-sharpened. Long ago, this knife had a small raised area inside the handle on either side of the blade, simulating a washer. This prevented the visible portions of the blade tang from rubbing against the handle, which on the new version is producing scratches. It's purely cosmetic, but I don't see why they would have changed this for the worse. It also used to include a pocket clip which could be attached if you preferred, but now does not.

Excellent everday knife,

I first purchased one of these knives several (3 or 4) years ago, and that very same knife is in my pocket now. It lives up the the Gerber name, being a very high quality, lockback pocketknife. One of my favorite features of this knife is that it is very thin and barely noticeable when in your pocket. For those of you who like to have a pocket clip, mine came with a removeable one that fits into the landyard hole at the bottom of the handle. It does a good job holding an edge, I had to sharpen mine fairly often because of the heavy use it recieved. This is a very reliable, high quality knife, and I recommend it to anyone who needs a knife to carry every day for those odd jobs that pop up.

Worlds Handiest Pocketknife,

I bought my first one over years ago; finally wore down the blade from misuse and sharpening.I immediatly got another five years ago and have used it for everything including cleaning several deer. This one is even better than the first. I own over fifty "using" knives, and other than the times when a fixed blade knife is needed, this is the one I choose and use. The quality of the steel and design are all out of proportion to the price. Get one, use it and enjoy a high quality knife that is easy on the pocketbook and easy to carry. PS: My "belt" knife is a Gerber tool.

I purchased one of these knives in 1985 at Ft. Benning Georgia. That same knife is in my pocket today and has traveled from Arctic climates to the tropics. It is a very handy little blade for simple, everyday cutting chores. I own several expensive, well known "tactical" folding knives, but for everyday practicality this one cannot be beaten, especially for the price. My original cost $8.00 new, and I bought a second one as a spare a couple of years ago. It usually sits in a drawer because the original one is still going strong! I just bought my third for a gift to someone and I expect they will have it as long as I have had mine.

Perfect Pocket Knife,

For years my dad would break out his trusty Gerber whenever he need to open a letter or peal an orange. Now I know why. The knife is lightweight, fits very nicely in your hand, has an extremely sharp blade, and is nice and flat so it doesn't cause a huge bulge when it's in your pocket. The checkered grip makes it easy to hold onto and it will take a sharpening well.

I've had this knife for several months now, and it seems to be just as sharp as the day I got it. And it was very sharp on the day I got it. A dull knife to me just isn't that useful, so this knife is perfect.
Very light, durable, and I've made it a habit to have it with me 100% of the time. Wouldn't be caught without this. I recommend it to anyone that wants a nice little knife that you can always carry around, and it's just as sharp as anything you'd need it for. Can't go wrong for the price, either.

this pocket knife is great. inexpensive, easy/open close, light weight and super sharp. i just have to carry a pocket knife (doesn't everyone?) and was looking for something new after carrying mini swiss army knives for years (and replacing them every 4-6 months!). i have very few "must have's" in this regard:
1) pocket sized (obviously) 2) light 3) sharp 4) durable it's a little larger that i wanted (i prefer something about the same size as my flash drive), but it's been absolutely stellar thus far. the drop point is great for cutting boxes open and liberating the odd hard drive jumper. the grip is sure, the lock secure, and the blade has held it's edge extremely well. well done gerber.

I have had a few of these knives that have been sacrificed to the fates (lost), friends, airport TSB folks and courthouse security through the years, and always liked 'em. Nothing will beat the original version with micarta scales which was the classiest knife Gerber ever made. When they changed the blade and put on the nylon handle, they made a great knife that was inexpensive, yet a near-perfect design. It still is, and I'm sorry they discontinued them.
That said, the review pointing out that whoever grinds these blades does so unevenly was dead-on. Out of five knives I purchased, all but one were very unevenly ground--double the bevel on one side compared to the other. Grind was fairly coarse as well. On an inexpensive knife that starts sharp and will be sharpened a lot as time goes on, it will probably even out. It does not give me a lot of confidence about Gerber's other Chinese-made knives that sell for more money than the LST's. I would still recommend both the large and small LST for every day carrying, survival kits and a back-up knife when camping. It's just disappointing to see such a great concept and classic knife suffer from uncaring construction.

great knife,

This review is from: Gerber 22-06009 L.S.T. Drop Point, Fine Edge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great everyday knife. Sure, it's not as heavy duty as some people might like (the blade is quite thin), but for an everyday knife to have in your pocket, it fits the bill perfectly. It's extremely light (you will only barely notice that something is in your pocket), very sharp, and very well-balanced in your hand. It's an ideal blade for slicing things. The only bad thing I have to say is that it doesn't come with a pocket clip.
I highly recommend owning one of these, but don't pay more than $15-$16.

I used one of these knives for over 15 years until I lost it somewhere in the woods. I liked it so much that I bought another one. It is lightweight enough to have in your pocket all the time, but the blade is large enough and sharp enough to get some real work done.
