Product Description

Product Description

Assisted opening blade. Thumb stud for easy 1 handed opening. Textured handle for added grip. Stainles steel pocket clip. Box packaging.

From the Manufacturer

With spring-assisted technology, the Gerber Fast Draw Knife deploys quickly and easily with one hand. This fine edge knife can be triggered using the thumb stub or with a sudden release of the index finger. The Fast Draw features a high carbon surgical stainless steel blade and tactile texturing on nylon handle. The blade measures 2.99 inches in length. A sturdy pocket clip keeps it close at hand. This knife comes with Gerber's limited lifetime warranty. From the Manufacturer, Gerber Legendary Blades is proud beyond description to introduce our first spring-assisted knife. The FAST Draw relies on our proprietary new blade opening concept--Forward Action Spring Technology--that's so lightning-quick, so pleasingly easy to open with just one hand, it's already drawing a lot of attention among knife folks everywhere. The mechanism was created exclusively of us and patented by Qregon knife make Butch Vallotton. Should you choose, you can open the FAST Draw in the traditional way, using the thumb stud. Or, if speed is the order of the day, you can simply trigger the blade's sudden release with your index finger. It's an exciting concept that certainly belongs in your collection.

The pros;
.open assist is fast and works well
.weight
.clip is in a good position at the end , tip up
.price
.easy carry for use as an EDC knife, very compact
cons;
.steel is way too soft and blade is too thick of a grind for this small of a knife, the serrated grind is also has too deep of a cut pattern for my liking
.constant dulling in use. No mention of steel type either, my guess 440c, or AUS6. My Fire/ Rescue Gerber has a better steel quality, but that was made in the USA, this is Taiwan.
. grip needs more roughness,slippery when wet, [you can do some changes yourself there]
. for my hand it is too small of a handle for medium to heavy EDC utility use
If the steel was better it would be an acceptable knife. If you buy it and like a really sharp knife that will stay that way in reasonable use do not buy this. Kershaw Leek,Blur, SOG Trident, have AUS8, much better steel. My Leatherman New Wave has CM154 and is excellent in edge hold and sharpness, that is a great steel choice also, hardly ever sharpen those blades.

This Gerber "Fast Draw" knife is replacing my lost Gerber "EZ Out" knife that I carried for almost 15 years, so it has a lot to live up to. While Amazon usually has the best prices (about 2/3 cheaper), I went to a big box "outfitter" store to try out some different models since knifes are tools that you really have to hold to see if they are "right" for you. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Easy to open one handed, the spring assist is very helpful
+ Positive lock, working to keep it closed and open, which is useful for keeping all of your fingers attached
+ Sharp blade right out of the package and it holds an edge nicely
+ Sturdy belt clip

Cons:
- Somewhat "cheesy" looking grip, I almost passed it up without trying it out because it looked cheap to me
- Mechanism makes a grinding sound when the blade is closed, but I'm hoping that it is just a wearing in issue

While I doubt this knife will last as long as my last Gerber, it is a very good tool for daily use in our small shop.

Recommended! Also, there is a Gerber 22-41525 Mini-Fast Draw Spring Assisted Opening Stainless Steel Serrated Knife (see my comparison picture in "Customer Images").

This knife is great, but doesn't do EVERYTHING it is supposed to, it looks like you should be able to open it with a flick of your index finger (like the joker knife), but the metal ridge is BELOW the plastic case, so you can basically only open it with your thumb, and using leverage against the knife case, it is a very nice knife, and once you get the "trick" down opening it is very easy, I like the thumb "safety" it is very easy to use, and the knife opens very quickly, but the opening layout could use a makeover (I'm tempted to file out the top of the knife so that I can open it with a flick of my index finger, a nice knife overall.

There's truly nothing I dislike about this knife. It's a great size for your front or back pocket, has the belt clip so you can technically clip it just about anywhere. Spring assisted knives are not legal to carry in all states, so be sure to check the laws in your area. With a limited lifetime warranty (which means the CONSUMERS lifetime, not the lifetime of the product - but generally, that's still a really long time!) I can't see a good reason not to love this knife!

This seems like a good knife. I've only had it a week or so. The description doesn't tell you about the locking thumb button, and it's hard to see in the picture. The assisted opening works well and it doesn't open it so fast that it tries to "jump" out of your hand like others I've used. This knife was very sharp upon delivery. I did not get the one with the serrated edge, because it is easier to sharpen a knife that doesn't have the serrated edge.

For an assisted opening Stainless-Steel Blade knife at $20, this is pretty good to have. I bought one as a gift for asomeone who likes it. Even though it's nice for the price, the Kershaw OSO Sweet Knife with Stainless-Steel Blade is top dog for me in the price range. A little smaller, nicer to look at and I feel a better all around pocket knife, which a paid under $20 for with no tax and free shipping.

Arrived on time. NOT impressed with this Chinese made knife. Fast draw - how do they figure that??? If it's supposed to have a spring in it, mine is lacking parts. Arrived needing sharpening. Overall, I'm dissappointed with this knife. I'll probably keep it because all I'm going to do is clean fish with it - but, in my never humble opinion, it's worth about $10, NOT $24. Wouldn't buy another one.

Out of the box the knife is sharp. its a nice knife but when new its a bit hard to get out for the asset to take over. I will chime in again when I brake it in. I would like to see a bit stronger spring and the blade not go in the handle as far as it does, that would make it a lot easier on the thumb to get the blade moving.
