Great thin durable knife,

This review is from: Gerber 22-41586 Torch II Tanto G-10 Black Serrated Edge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased the knife to take overseas for deployment to Afghanistan. It's low profile, fits in the back pocket of the Army ACUs nicely and can be employed quickly from there as a backup or utility knife. I can sit down with the knife in that pocket and not even know it is there. It has held up nicely and I would recommend it to anyone needing a good basic knife for a variety of needs that doesn't take up a lot of pocket space.

If you're debating on buying this knife - stop - and simply buy it.
If that's not good enough, keep reading and let me share some details about Gerber's awesome craftmanship. This is a big knife, it completely fits your hand, and contours perfectly to it. It's incredibly light and fits easy inside your pocket with the clip. I use this at work to cut boxes, and splice wires but it's got the strength to do so much more. Everytime I pull this out at work, people ask me to hold it - that can get rather annoying, but it comes with the territory of a great knife. The cutting power is outstanding, and it comes sharp and ready to use right out of the box. Once you experiment with the lever on the back, you can open this knife with a lightning fast flip, or you can use the thumb grip to slide it up. It took a little practice, but now I feel like I can pop it open like a pro. It's a beautiful black on black grip and blade. If you're in the military, I bet this could do some damage, and is easy to cart around unseen. If I was stranded on an island, this would probably be my first choice to take with me. I could say many more things, but if you've read this far, you're already making the right decision by looking at this balde. I spent many hours researching for a blade that looked unique, intimidating, comfortable, and performed well - and I chose this one, and it exceeds my expectations - I'm sure it will exceed yours.

Great casual carry knife,

I chose this knife as a birthday present for myself and I love it. I've had other Gerbers before but they were usually fairly small and felt awkward in my hands if I had to use any kind of force or pressure to cut something. The Torch II Tanto feels good in my hands. Like the other reviewer said, it is heavy but I'd rather say that it's just big boned.
The finger flip opening/finger guard works very well. This was my first knife with that type of opening as an option and it took a day or two to get used to it but now I can flip it open just as fast as a knife with assisted opening. The finger guard is just a big plus. The blade isn't as sharp as I expected a Gerber blade to be but it is still very sharp and cuts very well. Overall a great knife that I carry with me everywhere but to work.

Good daily carry knife.,
This review is from: Gerber 22-41586 Torch II Tanto G-10 Black Serrated Edge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have carried this knife for a few years as a daily utility blade. The opening mechanism is efficient, and the blade adequately sharp with good edge retention. The retention clip does well at retaining the knife in a pocket or similar, and went through three years of daily carry and moderate use before the clip screws loosened (once loosened, however, they were fully unscrewed and lost within 48 hours). The knife is still my daily carry blade, and will be a little more comfortable once I reattach the retention clip.

Good Tactical Clip Knife,
This review is from: Gerber 22-41586 Torch II Tanto G-10 Black Serrated Edge Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This knife feels very high quality when you hold it. The handle is made of stainless steel with G-10 inserts which give it a really good feel. The handle also forms to the hand quite well and feels good to hold. It's a little on the heavier side, but i like that because it gives the knife some heft. The blade come quite sharp and the tanto point is great and really gives the knife a real tactical look and feel. The finger guard/flip assist is great and allows you to open the knife very quickly and when it acts as a finger guard it's very useful. The knife also has ambidextrous thumb studs if that's what you prefer. The knife come with a right-handed point-down clip which is what i prefer, but you may not. Over all, this knife feels high-quality and good in the hand.

Solid utility knife,

A 3.5 inch blade is pretty big for an everyday pocketknife, and to be honest it's a bit heavier than I was expecting. But the feel in your hand is excellent. The action is nice and smooth for one handed opening. The thumb stud is a little awkwardly placed, but the finger guard works well for one handed opening and doubles as a finger guard nicely. Both for in use as well as a nice protective feature that prevents the blade from closing on your fingers when closing the knife (operating the lock release) with one hand. The lever touches the finger used to disengage the lock, not the blade.
The combination half serrated/straight blade is great as a general knife. The serrated section works excellently for cutting rope and a variety of other materials. And the size of this blade, means you have quite a bit of real estate to work with no matter which side of the blade you want to employ. One thing I happen to know from owning previous gerber knives is that they use softer steel than say a sptdeco for the blade. This means you can get them razor sharp. On the flip side though it means they dull faster as well. Take care of it and it will take care of you. If I had one complaint it would be the weight. Its a bit heavier than I was expecting, and although a great size for an everyday pocketknife, its on the heavy side to carry everywhere in every pair of pants. Which is what I was hoping for.

This is my second Gerber and my new favorite. Not a fan of the pocket clip, so I used a T6 to remove that. The grip is fantastic, very sure and comfortable. The one-handed operation is excellent. Yes, it is heavy, but the stainless steel frame is also extremely solid. I'm not that skilled at honing steel, so the straight facets of the tanto blade are a real plus for maintaining a sharp edge. Highly recommended.

I bought this knife exactly 6 months ago; which means that after shipping and handling, I have had this knife for a couple days less than 6 months, but the screws on the side of the knife have come undone and the siding of the knife has fallen off, along with the two screws that were holding it in; they aren't regular screws, so I'm forced to now pay shipping to Gerber for a knife, which I have owned for less than 6 months, so that they can take it and screw the screws back into it... I have no doubt this will be a recurring event, might as well just throw it away. This isn't the first Gerber knife I've had this problem with, their paraframe II did the same exact thing, but with that knife the damage from losing screws was far worse since it was a paraframe. I use to recommend Gerber, but I'm afraid I can't any longer.

Two things attracted me to this knife. The first thing was the fact that it was made by Gerber and the second was the styling of the knife. I really like the feel of it in my hand and I am especially pleased with the finger flip/guard. Once you get the hang of flipping it open you can deploy the blade rapidly. It may not be as fast as an assisted opening mechanism, but it suits my needs and expectations. The grip on the handle is nicely textured, it is not too rough. The pocket clip is nice to have, but it is a little tight. Another feature I like is the lanyard hole. I am thinking about putting some para-cord on it to have with me at all times. The one thing I was disappointed with is that this knife is Made in China (It states this on the packaging). On the other hand my other Gerber knife Gerber LMF II Serrated Fixed Blade Knife with Foliage Green Handle has Portland Oregon proudly stamped on the blade. I am hoping to still receive the same quality even though it was not manufactured here in the USA. thankfully Gerber has a lifetime warranty. Pros: Very sharp blade (Put a nice gash in my finger nail) 3.5 inch blade (Could be a con if you are used to smaller knives) Very good grip Finger flip/Guard Lifetime warranty Cons: Made in China Tight pocket clip (does not bother me too much) No option for a non-serrated blade |
