5.0 out of 5 stars Very good and sturdy knife!
I love this knife! I bought one for light use around the house and at work, and I would have to say this is the best money I have spent in a long time. The knife came very sharp and the blade does not dull out as quickly as many other knives tend to do, especially those around this price range. The handle is surprisingly sturdy, the screws came incredibly tight, the clip...

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs Sharpening
Gerber puts out a nice product but the sharpness of the blade was terrible. There is no excuse for this not having a razor sharp blade from the factory. Fire whoever is working on the sharpening line and hire some people who actually care what kind of product they are selling.

I love this knife! I bought one for light use around the house and at work, and I would have to say this is the best money I have spent in a long time. The knife came very sharp and the blade does not dull out as quickly as many other knives tend to do, especially those around this price range. The handle is surprisingly sturdy, the screws came incredibly tight, the clip will never worry you, and the handle fits perfectly in your handle. I have never once feared the blade would come loose even during heavy use, and I never have to worry about the blade coming out in my pocket.

The only thing I don't like about this knife is that, especially with gloves on, the blade is very tough to get out with only one hand. I know most fingernail-release blades like this are the same way, but if the opening was slightly bigger, then the problem would be solved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought it, lost it, bought another, March 26, 2011

This review is from: Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge (Tools & Home Improvement)
This knife is very good for an everyday pocket knife. I didn't want a large knife, I need something that fits in a standard pants pocket along with keys and doesn't get in the way.

The blade is sharp, the serrations are very effective. Sharpening a serrated edge is difficult but not impossible, but for this price I'd just get another one when they get dull.

Never had any issues with the lock blade opening, staying open or closing. Never had any issues with the knife falling apart like another reviewer. It can be taken apart for cleaning and to remove the clip.

I had gone from a small multi-tool type knife to this one and was glad to make the change. When I lost it I looked for a replacement locally and could not find it. If you want a small sturdy, sharp, 50/50 straight-edge serrated knife I'd get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect everyday pocketknife, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've been carrying one of these as my everyday pocketknife for a couple of years now, and if I ever lost it I know I would immediately replace it with another. Blade is sharp, and I find the serrated edge very useful for a wide variety of typical day to day tasks. The lock is simple and in my experience reliable and strong. And the belt clip isn't some dinky plastic thing that's going to break off after a few months of wear.

This is clearly a knife for righties - the clip will be primarily useful when it's carried on your right side, and due to the clips placement I find it quite difficult to open one handed with my left hand (even though I'm actually left handed). Indeed, one handed opening! In contrast to several other reviews on this item, I find my knife easy to open one handed and do so habitually. I can't remember the last time I had to use both hands to open it. However, it took some practice to get the motion down, and I could see how it might be difficult if your hands were particularly large (or covered in oil or something else slick), so perhaps counting on this ability isn't wise.

I bought this knife to participate in the Gerber Bonus Blade promotion.

This knife has a very smooth open/close hinge. It is very very sharp. The liner lock is extremely tough to move to fold the knife!

Pros: Sharp, smooth, light weight.
Cons: Tough liner lock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, August 30, 2011

It didn't come with that, shave-the-hair-off your arm kind of edge I've grown accustomed to over the years from Gerber Knives, but the design is AWESOME, and the size absolutely perfect! Small enough to go un-noticed, yet large enough to actually function as a knife, with the serrated edge adding a desired versatility. So, if you need a small, functional blade, this is it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice knife, April 28, 2011

Gerber states is one-handed opening; maybe if you have smaller hands. Blade is sharp and knife is well constructed. The locking device is different than I've ever seen but not bad. I think it will work out well for a pocket knife. It is lightweight and will probably end up in the washer many times with the laundry.
UPDATE - I have had this for a few weeks now, and it is an excellent pocket knife. It has worked for every small, daily task I have needed it for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great knife but not long wearing, April 18, 2011
This review is from: Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had several of these. I use them and give to friends also. Great size, under $10 at Walmart, perfect size in your pocket.
Only problem is that they get loose in the folding point. The issue seems to be they have 2 Teflon washers right where the blade hinges and if you use them several times per day they start getting loose and wobbly within 1 to 2 years or less. They do not hold an edge well either but heck for $10 what do u expect. For the price a great knife and if you lose it no big deal but it will never become a family heirloom that Grandpa handed down to the grand children. For the cost its a good deal but do not think high quality when you see the Gerber name here. Yea it is made in China also so that figures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute knife, April 8, 2011

This review is from: Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have read many reviews of knives like this one, and reviews of this one itself. After that I bought several of these Mini Paraframes. Keep in mind, there are many models of this same knife. Some with straight edges, some with serrated, I need/use serrated.

I should also mention, I have very few example to compare with, I simply realized I really needed a small pocket style knife in several places in my life. That all being said:

Pros

- This knife is good looking, (I gave a few of mine away as gifts to those in need).
- Light
- Functional (clip, serrated edge, sharp).

Cons

- Open it with respect.
- Close it with more respect (it is sharp, and requires one to use both hands to move the blocking clip)
- It rusts (mind you , I live in Hawaii, everything rusts, but, I expected this to be a little more hardy. I simply have to hit it with a little steel wool once a year).

I'm sure there is a much better knife out there, that opens/closes easily, etc. Every once in a while I ask someone that clearly "live with their pocket knife" what they like about their choices , and I never see that it is something I personally need or want, so I'm sticking with this design until something is proven to me. I also prefer the Leatherman Wave as a separate tool. I have about over 10 (again, also as gifts for others).

This knife was exactly what I wanted. Small , very sharp and easy to carry. I would recommend this for anyone who likes to have a very compact and useful knife on hand.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice knife, but buy the fullsize, February 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gerber 22-48484 Mini Paraframe Knife, Serrated Edge (Tools & Home Improvement)
Let me preface this by explaining that I've carried a folding knife with a clip in my pocket since I was 14. I've been through everything: Spyderco, kershaw, gerber, smith and wesson, ETC. I really like this knife design, it's lightweight and the handle fits well in my hands... Well it would if I was like 8. I know it says mini but this thing is SMALL. It'll serve me well until I buy another one but doing it again I would have bought the fullsize. It was super stiff when I opened it up, the blade was quite hard to open and the blade lock was WAY too stiff. It's part of the handle and I had to adjust it so my friends with less manly hands (and my girlfriend) could use it without issue. I just used some tools and bent the lock side of the handle and the belt clip until they were a bit looser and it'll work for now. Overall a good knife at a great price but a bit on the small side for me.
