Better than the Crucial FAST, but thats not saying much.,

The blade is decent quality and the serrated part is long enough to be useful, unlike the F.A.S.T. It opens and closes well, the lock works and isnt difficult. The carbiner/bottle opener is strong but this tool is too heavy to carry around dangling. It will leave a bruise on your leg or whatever. Also if you have the carbiner open you cant get at the knife. It also takes up space that could have been better served on more or larger tools, like the FAST had.
The philips is one of those crummy flat jobs that doesnt do much, its also too short to be useful. Same for the flat head. Pliers are difficult to open, but luckily its the only item you need to open the tool for, all the others are on the outside and easy to access. pliers are strong but the included wire cutters arent much good. The belt clip is irritating but can be easily removed. Even so this tool isnt much fun to carry around. The blade is more convenient than on the FAST but everything else is inferior. Doesn't have good drivers or enough functions. This is no good to carry or leave in your glove compartment. Recommend you avoid.

If you like the Gerber brand you'll like the Crucial.,

I bought a Crucial last year and had it for all of three months and lost it. It about killed me but I made myself wait until now to replace it hoping I will take better care of this one. It's a little thick but that is something you will have to deal with in order to get all the tools you want without wearing a belt case to hold your multi-tool when you just want to hang out but don't like being far from the essentials. Feels pretty solid and the blade is of decent thickness more like an electricians knife. And the pliers are the one thing I hate to be without. Now it's not every tool for every job. It is however that thing you'll be glad you bought, but you weren't sure if you should spend the money on it.

Gerber Crucial Tool,

The Crucial Tool is one of the truly "handy" hand tools. Each tool, with the exception of the carabiner, locks when open so it won't fold back on your fingers when using it. The pliers are very effective for light duty repairs, etc. A great personal tool and a great gift for any handyman!

Great everyday tool,

This multi-tool is perfect for me. I carry it everyday and use it frequently. It's bigger than the Squirt I used to carry but much more useful. If you need screwdrivers, pliers and a knife in your pocket, I would recommend this. I really like the fact that all the tools lock in place when open.

This product was a disappointment. The wire cutters did not cut wire, they just mashed it. The front of the knife blade wasn't very sharp altho the serrated portion was. The phillips screwdriver just worked its' way out of any screw that I tried it on. Overall, it's an overpriced piece of junk.
Gerber knows how to make great pocket multi-tools. I own two and I don't recall paying any more for quality USA made products than I did for this Far East import.

My husband has several multi tools and never carries them, he doesn't like the bulk. This wonderful little tool has now replaced his pocket knife and I can steal the other gerber multi tool for my gear bag!!! Happy all around now lol

By limiting the tools to just the most common functions, Gerber was able to make the multi-tool more compact and also make the individual tools more user friendly. Most multi-tools are either too bulky to carry in your pocket, or they are designed around one central tool (usually the pliers) so that the rest of the tools cannot be used effectively, but this one is designed with each tool in mind.

Great tool for a good price. The Phillips head isn't the best, but had worked for small things so far.

The product is very sturdy and good quality but it lacks a few features that would have made it truly awesome. Examples; there is no spring to help reopen the pliers (which is common), the belt clip/bottle opener could have been a more useful tool like a pry or a ripper anything but a semi redundant bulky tool. Also the tool comes poorly oiled and needs a lot of braking in till it works smoothly. On the whole it is a great product very sturdy and functional.

Great light weight multi-tool,

My favorite multi-tool is the Gerber Suspension, but the weight is too much for daily carry. This Crucial is a great, light weight tool. It has the tools I use most often, such as:
- a single hand opening blade. The click into the locked position could be a little more sure. - Needle nose pliers. Seem fairly strong, but I wish they were spring loaded like the Suspension. - Flat and cross screw drivers. Useful in a pinch when a regular driver isn't handy. - Bottle opener I looked at the Leatherman Skeletool and Freestyle. The Freestyle only has the knife and pliers. The Skeletool looks nice, but I thought I would go with the lower cost Gerber Crucial. I might still get a Skeletool as some point. |
