F.A.S.T Technology for One-Handed Opening
In order for an opening mechanism to improve a knife's handling it needs to be quick, smooth, and safe, and Gerber's AO 3.0's F.A.S.T technology delivers on all three fronts. F.A.S.T stands for Forward Action Spring Technology, and it allows you to open your knife quickly using just one hand. Once open, the blade locks securely into place to protect your hand, which also allows you to put more pressure on the blade for cleaner, quicker cuts.

The AO F.A.S.T. 3.0 features a strong, modified drop-point blade with a fine edge configuration that makes fast, neat cuts. Because a sharp knife is not only more effective but also safer to use, it's also worth noting that a fine-edge blade is easier to sharpen and maintain than a serrated blade. The blade measures 2.90 inches long, and it is crafted from durable stainless steel for improved edge retention and a longer tool life.

Sleek, convenient as well as practical, the AO F.A.S.T. 3.0 is well balanced and measures a length of 8.2 inches when locked open, and just 5.3 inches when in the closed position. The knife handle is curved to fit comfortably in your hand for improved control and comfort, and is crafted from anodized aluminum with TacHide inserts, a trademarked composite material. For added convenience, a set of thumb grooves on the back of the handle makes it easy to apply additional downward pressure to the blade when making tricky cuts.

This is a well made knife. It is bigger than i thought it would be, and I wish I had bought the serrated edge. Opens lightning fast, holds an edge and the bottle opener is cool.

Worked good out of the box. A quick polishing at my local machine shop produced the fastest knife I've ever owned! My always carry knife!

This knife was such a let down. I ordered this knife from the internet with nothing to go on other than pictures and previous experience with Gerber products(which until now was excellent). The knife looks beautiful, unfortunately that's all it does. It is advertised as an assisted opening knife but if you try and use the punch out on the blade with your thumb as a one handed opener your going to get hurt by the ungrounded edges of the punch out. the knife does not have any thumb studs or flip-out tab on the blade whatsoever, and when you do open it with two hands the "assisted opening" kicks in and really messes things up. I'm still trying to figure out what the designers of this knife were thinking when they designed it to operate this way. I should have known when they said it was good for spreading peanut butter I was in trouble.
