I do a lot of field work and use my Gerber Crucial Tool nearly every day. I also take a lot of photographs while in the field, so I thought this Steady Tripod Multi-Tool would be an ideal multi-tool for my day-to-day work. Unfortunately upon receiving this tool I quickly realized that it was not going to be my ideal multi-tool. The images and advertisements make the Steady Tripod appear to be made entirely of metal (much like that of the Crucial). This is not the case. The frame, blades, and tools are all metal (obviously), but the handle and the fold out legs are actually plastic. This not only makes this multi-tool bulky, but it is also quite un-steady.

With that said, it is not a terrible product. I did not buy it to use with an DSLR or large camera. I bought it to use with a small point-and-shoot digital camera, so it should be sturdy enough to handle that. Another plus is that the suction cup mount for phones works really well. I have a rubberized case on my phone and the mount stuck amazingly well to it. Now for another complaint. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, the tools are incredibly hard to open. You really do need another tool just to open these...well, that or tough nails. I assume though, that this will become less of a problem over time as these tools loosen up a bit.

Despite being very disappointed in the plastic handle and tripod legs, I am giving this multi-tool 3 stars, rather than one, because it is actually reasonably well made. The blades and tools are high quality, and the phone suction cup mount works very well. In the end though, I would instead recommend buying the Gerber Crucial Tool and an inexpensive portable tripod.

I collect pocketknives, and I felt I should get this one when I saw it in a magazine. I definitely didn't have one with a tripod attachment! I figured this could come in useful, especially the suction cup part that held up your phone as a camera.

The tripod functionality didn't disappoint. However, the rest of the multitool was mediocre. I've owned several Gerbers before and they all have been easy to use (easy to get the attachments out) and polished. This one, the attachments were very difficult to get out. It seemed like perhaps Gerber rushed this to market - or maybe I got a defective one.

I decided to keep it because of the tripod functionality. But, this is not my everyday knife.

I like some have really wanted to like this multi tool. I mean really, really wanted to like it. I spend a long time watching all the Youtube vids, and read all the reviews everywhere before buying it. I should also mention I am a pretty big Gerber fan too. I ordered it after extensive research and I returned it the same day I got it.

It just felt too flimsy in the handles. If you squeezed the pliers, the 2 handles would touch...

GERBER, please come out with a model 2.0. with updates.

The knives are really good and sharp. The tripod is pretty good for a tripod multitool. It all works perfectly fine except the pliers. They don't have any spring in them. So you have to open the pliers with the other hand. I find this annoying. If you don't care then get it. It is good everywhere else on the knife

Awesome product. Always having a good multi-tool is a must, but having a built-in tripod is a bonus. The Steady is perfect for a small point-and-shoot, or by using the included suction cup, for a smooth surfaced smartphone. I wouldn't trust the suction cup for more than a few minutes with my trusty iPhone, but it's more than secure for those moments when you need to get a steady shot or two.

Great price and quick, no-hassle shipping too. Double Plus Good. : )

Good. It actually can act as a camera tripod for any camera with a standard 1/4" fitting, and also comes with an adapter to attach a suction cup to that fitting that can hold a smart-phone, either by it's glass front, or if it has a glass back there. Tripod legs fold out and expand out. The camera tripod fitting is on a ball swivel, which is necessary if you want to get a level shot on a level surface. Tripod legs and the ends of the handles have a non-slip rubber/silicone to keep this from moving on a slightly off level smooth surface. Handles are a comfortable plastic moulding. There are two knife blades, a philips screwdriver, a flatblade screwdriver leather awl/punch, and a bottle opener. Pliers are needle nose, and have a flush cut wire cutter (ziptie cutter) built in. Holster has a velcro closure loop so if you are going to hang this on your camera bag, w/o having a way to pull the strap off the bag to add this, you can. (Likewise for other bags, like backpacks, murses, purses, book bags, etc.) The style of the pliers is such that you won't pinch your palm or fingers in it when using the tool as pliers.

Not so good. As I say the tripod legs do not end up leaving you with a square stand. They don't flare out the same degree on both sides. So you will need to adjust the ball head to get a level camera if that's what you are looking for. None of the blades lock out when open. No lanyard bit. The finger catch for the philips blade is substantially below the surface of the blades on either side of it. There is no can opener. The holster that comes with it only can mount as a vertical drop, rather than a horizontal mount like the suspension multi tool holster (fortunately the holster is about the same size, but you lose the ability to carry the suction cup if you switch holsters.
