I do a lot of field work and use my Gerber Crucial Tool nearly every day. I also take a lot of photographs while in the field, so I thought this Steady Tripod Multi-Tool would be an ideal multi-tool for my day-to-day work. Unfortunately upon receiving this tool I quickly realized that it was not going to be my ideal multi-tool. The images and advertisements make the Steady Tripod appear to be made entirely of metal (much like that of the Crucial). This is not the case. The frame, blades, and tools are all metal (obviously), but the handle and the fold out legs are actually plastic. This not only makes this multi-tool bulky, but it is also quite un-steady.
With that said, it is not a terrible product. I did not buy it to use with an DSLR or large camera. I bought it to use with a small point-and-shoot digital camera, so it should be sturdy enough to handle that. Another plus is that the suction cup mount for phones works really well. I have a rubberized case on my phone and the mount stuck amazingly well to it. Now for another complaint. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, the tools are incredibly hard to open. You really do need another tool just to open these...well, that or tough nails. I assume though, that this will become less of a problem over time as these tools loosen up a bit.
Despite being very disappointed in the plastic handle and tripod legs, I am giving this multi-tool 3 stars, rather than one, because it is actually reasonably well made. The blades and tools are high quality, and the phone suction cup mount works very well. In the end though, I would instead recommend buying the Gerber Crucial Tool and an inexpensive portable tripod.
