The Gerber 31-000086 is a clip folder for knife people who prefer the look of a straight spine. The profile reveals a "seamless" design that begins at the back of the blade and continues along the length of the upper edge of the handle. In fact, the EVO actually has a little bit of the dagger in it. Another aesthetic design touch is the series of seven slanting oval openings in the anodized aluminum handle. They serve to make this knife both organic and aggressive. Functionally, the oval openings further reduce the overall weight of this knife to almost nothing. The blade is constructed of 440 stainless steel that is coated with titanium nitride for added corrosion resistance. There's a thumb stud for easy one-handed opening. And, there's an integral finger guard for an extra measure of safety. Bottom line? You'd do well to own such a highly evolved knife. Also included in this kit is the DF6 sharpener--you get perfect 30-degree edges quickly and easily every time. There are no special skills needed to sharpen all types of knives and axes. The specially curved diamond coated fingers replicate the swipe across a traditional honing steel. One swipe through the DF8 equals six swipes across a regular steel. Once you use this sharpener blades almost never need regrinding because the edges never get rounded like they can with other honing and sharpening steels. Small table top, compact design.

I am mostly giving this 5 stars to balance the fool who gave it 3 without any knowledge of the product.

I own the sharpener and several Gerber knives. They make a nice product.

When you first look at the sharpener, you wonder how it could do a good job. The sharpening surface feels like a diamond coated nail file. But a couple of light swipes and you have a nice edge. Because of the angle, I would not put a fine knife like a Shun through it. But for the average kitchen knife, it takes a second to make a blade capable of slicing tomatoes without making a mess of things.

I probably would give the package 4 stars as it is not a must have product. But I just claimed one in the Lightning Deal, and it will make a nice gift for another knife lover.

This is a great little knife..extremely sharp out of the box..not sure how the knife sharpener will be though, I tried it with a kitchen knife without much improvement, but it was a freebie anyway..knife is great............

Nice knife overall, holds a good edge, decent grip but the pivot gets a bit jammed up (a little hard to open) in dirty conditions. Can't beat the price especially with the sharpener included.
