Amazon.com

Designed for survival in the most extreme conditions, the Bear Grylls ultimate survival pack from Gerber is the all-weather workhorse of the Bear Grylls survival line. It features an easily pocketable multitool with 12 components, Gerber's Tempo flashlight, a fire starter rod, and a textured plastic sheath for durable yet convenient storage.

Ultimate Survival Pack hand
Includes 12-component multitool, flashlight, fire starter rod, and sheath (view larger).

A former member of the British SAS, a prolific adventurer, and the daring former host of Discovery Channel's "Man vs. Wild," Bear Grylls is no stranger to extreme situations. Each item in Gerber's survival series is thoughtfully designed by Bear Grylls and Gerber to offer features that can help keep a smart adventurer alive in the wild.

The multitool has 12 components, including pliers, wire cutters, a partially serrated blade, a wood saw, a small flathead driver, a bottle opener, scissors, a crosshead driver, a piercer, and a medium flathead driver. All components lock for safety and dependability, and the tool is housed in a tough rubberized handle that's perfect for gripping in the elements. The multitool has an overall length of 6 inches and a closed length of 4 inches, and it weighs 11.14 ounces.

The compact, rugged Tempo flashlight has an anodized aluminum body and a bright white LED light source that produces a 7-lumen output with a 30-foot distance. It's powered by a single AAA battery (included) for up to 4 hours of run time, and the LED bulb has a life rating of 100,000 hours. In addition to the fire starter rod and plastic sheath, the ultimate survival pack also comes with a pocket guide on the priorities of survival by Bear Grylls. Backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

After becoming separated from the group during a winter snowshoe tour last February, I must say this kit lives up to its billing. When stuck in a survival situation for few hours with any of Bear Grylls' products, your primary motivation becomes living long enough to get your money back from that smug bastard. Hours of scraping the firestarter instead of remembering to bring a simple butane lighter fueled my anger. When the flashlight died barely halfway through the first night of peril(4 hours? really?), I was able to keep warm in the dark with thoughts of revenge. Survival is 90% mental and this kit really gives you a reason to persevere.

I ordered this from Amazon when it was on sale for 52.95. I got 2 of these things, one for me and the other for the girlfriend to keep in our cars. First off the multi tool is ok, not great but better than some of the cheaper ones on the market, it seems to work ok for what it is. The firesteel is also not that bad, it's bigger than the one that comes with the Ultimate knife, it makes sparks. And the flashlight is not that bad considering its a single LED one AAA light. Mine runs for a bit over 4 hours on a super cheap battery.

All in all the whole kit was OK for what I paid for it. I'm glad I got them, but I'm really glad I got them for alot less than 80 bucks. By far the best part is having those things in one holster. That's why I actually got it.

For my Full Video Review and Demonstration of the Bear Grylls Survival Tool Pack on YouTube, search "gerber bear grylls survival tool pack review". It should come up #1.

Along the way we'll check out the tools included in this kit...And in my YouTube video, we'll also go out and use the fire steel and multi-tool to start a fire!

~The Bear Grylls Survival Tool Pack includes:

-A very interesting Multi - Tool... with some cool innovations
-Fire Steel
-A mini - LED flashlight
-AAA flashlight battery
-Bear Grylls Priorities of Survival - Pocket Guide
-And a pretty unique sheath to hold the gear.

~ABOUT THE SHEATH:

-Heavy duty
-Textured
-Durable
-Flexible

~BELT STRAP:

-I like the Closure Strap - It's more rubbery than the rest of the sheath. It is easy to open and close and attaches to BELT REALLY easy.
-Don't have to take belt off.
-I've worn this for a couple of days now and the kit is well balanced and is easily forgotten.

The only BLARING Omission to this Sheath and Package...
Nowhere to put the survival guide...BUMMER.

~FLASHLIGHT:

-Quality Tempo flashlight... Tempo is Gerber's way of saying it's a Mini Flashlight smaller than a pen flashlight.
-It's got a NICE Anodized Aluminum Body
-Single Bulb LED (Only 6 Lumens)
-The Battery Life is 2 or 3 hours
-You can see up to 20 feet
-ON/OFF by twisting
-I KEPT pushing the little thing on the bottom because I thought it did something- but it's just a deal to hold a key ring or something.
-It's a nice Size and feels solid.
-It's got a rubberized grip.

~FIRE STEEL:
-Longer than the fire steel that comes with the Ultimate SURVIAL knife.

It is very simple. This is a decent multi-toool. It is just not $80 decent. The firestarter, meh. The flashlight is a single AAA battery. It would not be the best choice in a survival situation..... For someone who wants to play survivalist in their backyard, it is perfect. For a serious deep-woods set, I could recommend a lot better and probably for a lesser price.

Let me start by saying it is OKAY. It is made in China so the quality is shoddy. I have used it for a few miscellaneous tasks and am afraid I will break it. ALL of my other Gerber products have been made in the U.S.A. and are amazing, some have been passed down from my father to me as well and work better then this. I don't know when Gerber sent their products to be made in China but I will not buy Gerber anymore because of it. In an absolute emergency I would use this but it would be my very very last choice. If you are looking for something to throw into an emergency kit that you wouldn't use often I would say you could find better for less money and I would not recommend this.

kinda cheep feeling but it does work. The scissors work great. The rubber on the flashlight kept peel back, I had to melt it in place. Would be good for a beginner multitool for a Boy Scout or Rick ranger. Can not be used daily it will break down too fast.

The multitool have all the items you might need out in the wild. The blades/tools slide out easily and locks. The rubber coating is nice, gives it a good grip in all condition. The fire tool gives nice hot sparks, works overtime. Comes with a rubberlike case, looks and feels like it can take a beating and survive. When the tool is packed into the case, I feel that the it holds everything in place and I don't worry about things falling off. However one big flaw with mine is that the mechanism to unlock the blades on one side doesn't work well. You have to pull/slide the level to unlock the blades, and this is very hard to do. I have tried putting oil, grease but it is still not easy. I think it is a problem with design or workmanship. Minus 2 stars.
