A Tiny but Great Knife,
By bevhoward "Beverly Howard" (Austin, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gerber 45874 Ridge Knife, Fine Edge, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've owned Gerber Ridge Knives over the better part of a decade and it has become my primary knife and tool.It is an excellent knife in a tiny package... so small that it is sometimes hard to find while searching a pocket when the need to use it arises. A razor sharp blade that keeps it's edge, single hand open and close and a safe reliable lock. My guess would be that I use it at least twenty times every day and it is the only knife I generally have with me. The single side frame is not an issue. The ridge on the frame edge completely isolates the blade and I have never been cut nor has it cut anything when closed. They don't wear out... they get lost. Fortunately, I purchased a couple of extra after I realized how valuable that the first one had become. I heard the first one I owned fall on the pavement a couple of months ago when I pulled my truck key out, but got distracted before I picked it up... it was gone when I remembered and came back later. Hope that it's new owner enjoys it as much as I did. In my case, I removed the clip and the unnecessary socket head "blade flip" screw to further reduce its size by a third. The black coating is long gone and the butt end has been ground down to create an emergency screwdriver which gets used a couple of times a week. It escapes me why serrated blades are replacing fine edge blades... they rip rather than cut and are a pain to resharpen. Gerber... bring back the Ridge Fine blade... the STL 2 is a poor replacement. great knife,

I have this knife on me at all times. This knife serves as my keychain, I have it clipped inside of my pocket and it makes retreiving keys very easy. Blade is an awesome little utility blade, handles reasonably big jobs for it's size (and it is very tiny) and is sharp enough to cut masking tape with and not tear it. The coating comes off fairly easily around the edges is really the only complaint I have. But I love it everywhere else. Great knife to have on you at all times, and since it's small it takes up very little real estate in your pocket if you carry a lot of things like I do.

Looks cool, right?,
By A Customer

Great looking knife, right? That's what I thought. It turns out, though, that the thing is tiny! 3" with the blade folded in and a little shy of 5" with the blade extended. Looking at the photo I assumed it was or larger and more useful proportions (like my Columbia River Knife and Tool K.I.S.S. knife). I also think that the lock on this knife is far too easy to disengage. That being said, this is a fairly nicely packaged knife. The blade is nice and sharp (although I haven't used it enough to see how well it stays that way), and there are both a belt clip and a hole for a lanyard or key ring. Plus it's small and light enough to just throw in your pocket for those just-in-case situations.
