Product Description

Product Description

Gerber Good Start Gentle formula is not only inspired by how the nutrition of breastmilk supports healthy growth and development but also by how gentle it is on your baby’s developing body. Since the digestive system is still developing throughout the first year of life, it is important to provide nutrition that is gentle for your baby.

From the Manufacturer

GERBER GOOD START Gentle, Powder, 12.7-Ounce Cans (Pack of 6) Product Shot

GERBER Product Shot

DHA and ARA for brain and eye development. View larger.

GERBER GOOD START Gentle Powder is made with key nutrients found in breastmilk to provide complete nutrition for your growing baby. This formula has the iron that babies need and contains easy-to-digest proteins. Fatty acids DHA and ARA promote healthy brain and eye development, and prebiotics support digestive health. GERBER GOOD START Gentle Powder is suitable for feeding babies from birth up to 12 months.

COMFORT PROTEINS Are Easy on Your Baby's Tummy

Only GERBER GOOD START infant formulas start with 100 percent whey protein, the highest-quality protein available in infant formula. These proteins are partially broken down into smaller pieces and are easy for your baby to digest.

May Provide Protective Benefits

GOOD START Gentle Formula is made with 100 percent whey proteins that are partially hydrolyzed.

For healthy infants who are not exclusively breastfed and who have a family history of allergy, feeding 100 percent whey-protein partially hydrolyzed infant formula from birth up to 4 months of age instead of a formula containing intact cow's milk proteins may reduce the risk of developing atopic dermatitis during the first year of life. The FDA has concluded that the relationship between 100 percent whey-protein partially hydrolyzed infant formulas and the reduced risk of atopic dermatitis is uncertain, because there is little scientific evidence for the relationship.

Partially hydrolyzed formulas should not be fed to infants who are allergic to milk or infants with existing milk allergy symptoms. If you suspect your baby is already allergic to milk, or if your baby is on a special formula for the treatment of allergy, your baby's care and feeding choices should be under a doctor's supervision.

DHA and ARA for Healthy Brain and Eyes

GOOD START Gentle Powder includes DHA and ARA, two fatty acids, or lipids, that are found naturally in breastmilk and which support healthy development of brain and eye tissues. This formula also has a blend of antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E as well as zinc to support a strong immune system.

Prebiotic Fiber for Digestive Health

This formula includes prebiotic Galactooligosaccharides (GOS). This prebiotic fiber is naturally occurring in breastmilk and can help support a baby's digestive health.

Convenient Powder--Just Add Water

This powder includes a scoop that makes it easy to mix exactly the amount you need with no mess or waste. Simply add water according to the package directions, and you're ready to feed.

From Younger Formula to Older Baby and Toddler Formula

GOOD START Gentle Powder provides the nutrients babies need from birth to 12 months. The AAP recommends avoiding cow's milk as a beverage until your baby is at least one year old. Cow's milk doesn't have the proper balance of nutrients -- such as the level of iron -- your baby needs for growth and development. After one year, older baby and toddler formulas are a nutritious choice for babies who may not be eating a balanced diet. These formulas as designed to provide extra nutrition assurance for babies nine to 24 months old.

My baby was very premature and had major surgery on her intestines.

This is definitely a great formula with infants who spit-up a lot or have acid reflux.

We were given a can of this to try and I was really disappointed in it.

Transitioning from breast milk to a formula was a parade of sad, wasted formulas that my boy would NOT drink. It got so bad, he was even dropping weight because he was only drinking when I got home from work (straight from the source, picky little booger). We tried six other formulas before googling best formula for breast-fed babies and this one popped up as number one on some type of consumer website. The smell is not as bad as other formulas and it did not cause gas discomfort in him. I highly recommend this- even for those folks who believe their babies are lactose intolerant. Try this formula first before putting your babies on those super-expensive hypoallergenic formulas. My baby was also a colicky baby, if that helps.

Because my breastmilk started drying up early on, we had to put our infant on formula. We tried Similac and Enfamil. Both seemed to give him bad diarrhea. We even tried soy formulas, but that started to constipate him. When we switched to the Gerber Good Start Gentle, it made a world of difference. If fills him up faster so we prepare less than the other brands. As soon as we switched he started sleeping through the night because it fills him up for longer periods of time. I looked at the ingredients of the Gerber Good Start Gentle and compared it to the Similac. I was shocked to see that the other brands' first ingredient is Corn Syrup Solids and sugar! The Gerber Good Start Gentle's first ingredient is Whey Protein! I feel so much better feeding our newborn whey protein instead of corn syrup and sugar (junk!). I know each baby is different, but I would recommend this formula to all mother's just on the ingredients alone.

This is one of THE BEST formulas on the market because it is closer to the composition of breastmilk. Good Start is 100% whey proteins (which is what makes it so easily digestible) and contains probiotics, which most of the others do not. You will notice less spitting up and easier bowel movements using this formula. Give it a couple of weeks for your baby's digestive system to adjust. There is a difference in taste so you might try a slow transition making 3 parts of your current formula to one part Good Start and then slowly add more each day or feeding. Dirty diapers may more closely resemble those of breast-fed babies as well, more greener, pastier, and seedy - this is normal. This is definitely a great formula with infants who spit-up a lot or have acid reflux. I would try this one first before using one of the more expensive brands such as Nutramigen, Allimentum, etc. These have such a bitter taste!

Have had other caregivers give this to our 10 month old breastfed baby on occasion in the past, like at lunch when he visited the grandparents for the weekend or such and we didn't have enough pumped milk. Got the bright idea (as a suggestion from nanny) to give him a bottle last night after his last breastfeeding session to help him "sleep better". I guess the reasoning being that his tummy will be full and he will sleep longer. It DID NOT work. I had never seen the effects for myself before, but my son was really hyper for hours after only taking 3 ounces! He didn't settle down until midnight and was up again (as usual) by six this morning. I did some research and there are some lower sugar organic (read more expensive) options available for formula. I may try one of these in the future, but for the positives: we've never had any stomach issues when we gave it to our son and he takes it the same as a bottle of expressed milk. It is good for a daytime supplement to breastfeeding, but if you need to supplement in the evening (and you can afford it) go with one of the organic low sugar brands.

in April they renamed this formula by dropping the "plus". I just called Gerber and "Gentle" is the same exact formula as the old "Gentle Plus". The large container is now plastic instead of a can.

My four-month-old is a small, but healthy, girl born eight weeks early. She's always spit up a lot (even on breastmilk around the clock) so we've been experimenting with different formulas to help her keep her food down better.

After 48 hours of using Gerber Gentle, she's projectile spitting up after almost every feeding (more than she had with breastmilk or Similac for preemies). And I can say without a doubt that her bowel movements while breastfeeding have never been green OR pasty OR as foul-smelling as they have been with only two days' worth of this Gerber formula. I know all babies are different, but we're not buying it again.

I tried Gerber because my baby was getting constipated since it has probiotics in it I figured it would be good for her. but it only made her spit up after every feeding. She even had it coming out of her nose.
