5.0 out of 5 stars After a long search, these are the best!
My 1.5 yr. old daughter has just begun feeding herself, and after searching for forks that actually work, are BPA free, and won't hurt her if she jabs herself in the mouth or face, I can happily say that I've found the best toddler spoon/fork set! She can grip the chunky handles steadily and use the utensils better than any I've seen her try so far, and I don't have to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, February 26, 2010
This review is from: Gerber Graduates BPA Free 2 Pack Safety Fork and Spoon Set, Colors May Vary (Baby Product)
Half the time my son used his hands as much as he'd use a cutlery set. More often than not they were were played with and just modeled what it was like to eat like a "real person." I know many parents are concerned about their child stabbing themselves in the face as their young toddlers are beginning to master using a fork, but this one only frustrated my son. He couldn't stab any of his food and could only scoop as much as a spoon could. The balls on the end and bumpy grips only frustrated him-which was so not worth the tantrums. I much preferred using the Gerber Kiddie cutlery set of 3 with spoon, fork, and knife. I held off on giving the knife until after 2 years of age, but even then, I never had a problem with him hurting himself. He did a great job with it and we still use the 3 set at almost the age of 3. However, this product held up well and never had any wear or color fade. I suppose you just have to know your child to chose the best product.

She can grip the chunky handles steadily and use the utensils better than any I've seen her try so far, and I don't have to worry about safety. Even the spoon is well designed: she actually gets a mouthful of food on it and eats effectively! (Other spoons were too small, or too deep, this is just right!) The look of accomplishment on her face is so rewarding!

1.0 out of 5 stars fork is worthless. spoon too flat., March 26, 2010
This review is from: Gerber Graduates BPA Free 2 Pack Safety Fork and Spoon Set, Colors May Vary (Baby Product)
I understand the fork isn't sharp for safety reasons, but it is absolutely worthless. The spoon is so flat that it barely holds anything either. If your baby has a steady enough hand to use the spoon, you can be assured that your baby is coordnated enough not to poke his/her eye out with a fully functioning fork.

1.0 out of 5 stars Spoon is flat, fork is frustrating!, October 12, 2011

I bought these for my son when he was learning how to feed himself, and they were nothing but frustration for him! The spoon holds little-to-no food, and because it is so flat, what little food he was able to scoop, would just fall off right away. The fork is even worse. I understand the concept of round edges, but the fork is SO rounded that even I had difficulty stabbing food with it. If an adult has difficulty with it, imagine a toddler trying to use it.

Overall, not worth the frustration! I ended up just giving my son a regular spoon and a salad fork (supervised until he got the hang of it), and he was MUCH happier because he could actually get the food in his mouth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy an extra set!, March 16, 2011
This review is from: Gerber Graduates BPA Free 2 Pack Safety Fork and Spoon Set, Colors May Vary (Baby Product)
This set is the best one out here! I bought a few different sets when my daughter was around 9 months old so that we could try a few out to find the best one. She picked these up so much faster than others, and now that she's 19 months, these are the only ones she uses. We bought a set for both grandparents' house, and everyone is so happy with how well she eats with a spoon and fork.

The fork is the big deal here. The tines are rounded, but still very easy to pick things up with, plus I don't have to worry about her poking her mouth or anything with sharp tines. She can pick up anything from apples to pieces of hamburger to egg to strawberries to pasta, and the list goes on.

The spoon is pretty flat, so it's not great for very liquid things, but who gives their toddler really runny things anyway? lol She eats applesauce, oatmeal, most soups (we thicken runny soups for her), and we know she can handle it.

I like that the handles are not curved or anything like some other brands. These are chunky and straight, and the little ball on the end makes it easy for me to rotate the spoon or fork if she gets it at an odd angle.

Five stars, for sure!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good grippy handles..., August 12, 2010

The spoon is very flat and doesn't hold soupy liquids or yogurt very well but is ok for the more sticky or mushy food. I like the idea of the rounded tines on the safety fork but the fork ends up being useless for most foods except for thick pasta pieces like rigatoni. The good grippy handles are probably the best part of this set. If you have a kid who is super picky about eating food to begin with this set might just be more of a barrier to eating.

...but I think the fork and spoon parts are a little bit too big. My son is a big boy, but he often hits the sides of his mouth while trying to feed himself due to the size of these. We have some plastic toddler spoons which are a better size for us.

Ok, so maybe there is some validity into the safety features of the fork. But honestly the blunted outer tines just make the fork frustrating for toddlers to use. My 15 month old just says "help me" and hands me the fork to stab food for her. And even my 3 year old had trouble with it.

On the plus sides. The handles are durable and seem to work well for both kids. The spoon is fine too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not that helpful., December 5, 2011

My son has been eating with these and several other types of cutlery since he started eating solid foods at around 9 months. They are easy for him to use to scoop up and stab the food, but almost too big for his mouth. Still searching for the perfect set! I wish I still had my baby fork and spoon set that was metal. I'm not convinced the modern nubby handle designs are best.

2.0 out of 5 stars short and bulky, November 29, 2011

I bought this for my kids to use, thinking the size and the shape would make things a little bit less messy for them when they eat. The size of the handles was a problem since they were made very large for a little hands to grip to it. I bought other ones that were smaller and have a curve at the end and they work excellent.
