5.0 out of 5 stars Withstood the test of time!, April 23, 2010
Like the other reviewer I too have had this multi-tool for a very long time, 15 years to be exact. This tool has been extremely durable, reliable, and functional through out the years. I kept this in my car as a "just in case tool". Basically if I didn't have access to my main tools, I would get the Gerber out and fix, repair, or set up what ever needed to be tended to. I also took it with me on camping trips which really came in handy. It honestly has been an outstanding tool and literally withstood the test of time without any signs, (visable or mechanical) of wear. With the flick of the wrist, the pliers pop out and lock into place, which is actually pretty cool and unique... and with the push of the release button it retracts back into place.
What sold me on the Gerber, unlike the Leatherman or any other multi-plier, is the locking and unlocking mechanism for the tools. The blades and tools click into place automatically and unlock with a thumb release switch, very easy to use and very safe. The release switch is fairly large and can easily be utilized with gloves. No need to pull out other devices in order to close the tool. I've actually cut myself on a Leatherman trying to close a tool, even pulling a tool out and locking it into place is difficult. Basically, these are the reasons why I returned the Leatherman and purchased the Gerber.
Til this day, the knives on my Gerber Multi-plier have stayed sharp and the tools haven't been compromised one bit. All in all, it's been an excellent tool that is more than worth the money.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I initally bought this tool in '97 while in the military for one reason , it opened with one hand so I could remove radio antennas from my Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Little did I know a the time how useful this tool was. I say was, because of all the things this tool is, unfortunately,it is not loss or theft proof. My Gerber has helped me fix an outboard motor that quit while we were fishing, cut up a sub sandwich when there was no knife at the summit, filed off sharp edges of my kids toys, and just been a great all around tool when someone says "Got a knife?" Unfortunately the wire cutters will only cut soft metals but mine has cut and stripped many wires. Another big plus; I only had to sharpen the knives twice in 13 years. I've carried this thing everywhere from the battlefield to the board room, I won't be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great warranty, May 31, 2011
Owned this knife for about 14 years. Several years ago, the locking slide came loose and the clip was lost. Looked up Gerber on the net and sent it in for repair. Gave a credit card information as I was not sure if it was covered. Was returned, repaired, new sheath, no charge. Finally, a company that stands behind their product. Highly recommended.
