My baby has been EBF for 5 months, but I've decided to stop as it's just too much with having to pump at work etc. So I've been switching her over to formula. So far so good. She spits up a bit more on formula, but nothing major. I think that's just a formula thing in general. She seems to like it. She drinks her bottle right down with no issues. No gas, or tummy problems. I liked this formula for the probiotics it has and the easy to digest protein. I figured it would be less problematic when switching from nothing but breastmilk to formula. So as far as the baby is concerned, it's great. The only thing that bothers me is that the formula seems to have a slightly fishy odor, and if I taste it, it has a fishy aftertaste? Has anyone else noticed this? I guess it doesn't matter since i'm not the one drinking it. The baby doesn't seem to care. I just thought it was odd. It does tend to clump a bit, but if you shake the crap out of it, they disapear. Overall, can't complain. It's working so far.

After his first (and only - knock on wood) colic episode, there was no way in hell I was going through that again! So anything to avoid that, poor baby was so uncomfortable. From the hospital, I was already using the Gerber Gentle, but I think the contributing issue was also the initial use of the Avent classic bottles. I think since he was 1 month early, he probably got less air and latched better with the VentAire bottles since they were smaller in design. We also decided to try and keep his tummy balanced and moved to the protect formula. With those adjustments, he is doing very well and it's been more than 4 months now. Now he's big enough that he latches fine on most if not all bottles but the Protect formula has remained the same. Perhaps it is a coincidence but since we changed to the Protect, his poop schedule has been more predictable and the consistency is pretty similar too which is great! The only issue which I suspect you would get with all powders (even in baking) was that sometimes you would get clumping..not all the time but a small handful of times in each tub use. So I find warming the water to a lukewarm temp and giving it a swirl while consistently pouring (not just dump in) in each scoop makes it less prone to clumping. Otherwise, we are happy with the formula. It looks like the other powders. It is a off white powder but mixes then looks like milk. I dabbed a little taste compared to some of the others and this isn't as sweet as others (i.e. similac ready serve). The baby doesn't mind and personally I don't want my baby to have a sweet tooth so I prefer keeping with simple and clean ingredients. Cost-wise it isn't much more if not, ever slightly cheaper than Similac and Enfamil. BRUs and Walmart have either the Valupack (2 -23oz in one box or 1 big 32oz tub) so I would go for that if not Amazon. I will say that Gerber is not a good with mailing us coupons than Emf or Sim - it seems we get coupons for those 2 much more frequently than Gerber does by 2 times the rate if not more. It is a little harder to find in local stores too since they tend to just stock tubs of sim, Emf or store brand...Gerber may not be as common but it shouldn't be a hunt though. I find that BRUS have econopacks in stock much of the times. We stick with it because he's been on it from early on, I compensate by buying the econopacks and BRUs sales so in the end it pretty much equals out.

FYI: this review is before they changed the Gentle Protect to the "supplemental" formula. So this review is based on the prior product. I'm not sure if this is the same product only new look or what. For the record -
The tubs are super handy containers too! Once done, they get rinsed, stickers peel off real easy and I use them to store my wife's breast pump parts so they stay clean and won't get lost. I also used a stack to organize my garage stuff (bolts, nuts, nails), put video game memory cards in, specialty tools, etc....and you can write on the front with a sharpie. Saved me a good amount of money on those little crap dollar store containers that have ill-fitting lids and all. At least you know these are kinda hinged, snap lock and less likely to have that questionable cheap plastic that may have poisons in them....you figure baby food containers "would" have (better regulation/monitoring) no/if any Bisphenol A (known as BPA) and phthalates (they act as what scientists call `environmental oestrogens', so-called because they mimic the hormone in our bodies). DUAL FUNCTION! Awesome!

For reference: (NorthEast/NJ/NY) a non sale price of 23 oz would be about 25 bucks. on sale it'd be 22 bucks. A BRUs Valupack is normally about 41 bucks but if on sale it goes for 35 bucks. Walmart has the huge tub 32oz for 25 bucks. - This is give or take a buck or 2 of course.

My husband and I really like the idea the 100% whey protein and corn syrup isn't one of the first ingredients as it is in the other formulas. I also really like the scoop they give. It is more narrow and conducive for dumping into the regular width bottles. My only complaint is that sometimes it doesn't shake up as well as I would like, leaving some clumps. However, we shake it up really well and usually put it in the fridge for the next feeding. After warming it up for the feeding and another quick shake, the clumps are usually gone. The good thing is that the formula doesn't stay bubbly after shaking like the Similac did for us.

My almost 8 month old transferred from breastmilk to this about a month ago or less. This formula is healthy with the added probiotics. I also add 1/4 tsp Natures way Primadopholis for children and 1/4 tsp Natures Way Reuteri to each bottle she drinks, for the most part. This helps to boost her immunity a lot. Highly recommend Good Start formulas, they are closer to breastmilk than other formulas

I used Gerber Good Start Protect Plus with my first son 3 years ago and was surprised to find it was no longer made. Then I came across this version. I loved the formula as it was before the name change, as the name change is just a gimmick to portray this formula as more similar to breast milk. Out of all the brands out there, however, I do believe that this formula is the best. My son's stools appear more similar to breast milk stools with this formula than with other formulas which make the stools more solid. However, now there is 1 ounce less as another poster wrote, and the name change is pointless - hence docking 1 star.

I took and posted pictures here of the original Protect Plus next to the new packaging and you'll see they're identical except for the 1 ounce less and the Vitamin D content (75 IU vs 60 IU).

It was a hard time when I had to stop breastfeeding, but I knew this was a wonderful formula if I could not breastfeed any longer. I am a nurse and work witha lot of different formulas and this was recommended to me by a lot of people including our nutritionist and my pediatrician. My son has not had any problems with constipation or other tummy issues, which I know happens a lot with formulas. I would highly recommend it!

This product does have some ingredents I'm not too crazy about. However, my lo is pooping daily and it's soft. She also sleeps well and spits up rarely ( she does have some reflux). After drinking regular Enfamil and Similac her tummy was very hard and she was fussy. We started with the gerber soothe but, she was having hard ball poops. I decided to try this and she did much better. I would recommend this to anybody. I have also worked in a daycare where kids were on this and they did well. Im happy I found something that makes her happy too!

I have been breast-feeding my six-month-old exclusively since birth, however there have been a handful of times when I've needed to supplement with formula. We at first tried Enfamil at the suggestion of our pediatrician, however we noticed it caused her discomfort with her bowel movements. I took a look at the ingredient list and was shocked at what was in it (including "corn syrup solids" as the number one ingredient). I did a lot of research and settled on this Gerber formula, and am so glad I did. The two times I've had to give it to my daughter, she loved it and had no subsequent issues. Something I also noticed was just simply the smell of this versus the Enfamil - it actually SMELLS much more appealing. This will be the only formula we'll use when needed.

This is a great formula, and you get a lot more for less than other products. No complaints so far.
