Book Description

2 and up
Gerda wants to fly to the moon. On her way to the launching pad she meets an eagle who paints landscapes, moles who are mining for coal but finding diamonds, a mouse who sings an aria from an opera, and an owl who studies the moon with his telescope. When Gerda peeks into the telescope and sees the moon's cold, bleak surface, she decides to stay here on earth and let other silly geese fly into space. Delightful full-color illustrations on every page. (Ages 2-5)

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, wonderful book, January 4, 2012
This review is from: Gerda the Goose Hb (Hardcover)
This book is about a goose who dreams of going to the moon, but in the end realizes that it's not all that great, and there is beauty in the simplest things, if only you are willing to see it. I'm not sure how I acquired this book, I don't think I've ever seen it in a book store, but I feel lucky to have it. I used to read it to my (now 14 year old) son, and now read it to my daughter. The book has a great flow, it reads like poetry without the need to rhyme at all. Very well written and sweet, with the bonus of a wonderful message. A great book for bedtime or any time, it should be part of every child's library.
