an important recital of Tailleferre's fine music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Germaine Tailleferre: Chamber Music (Audio CD)
Containing the complete music for violin and piano as well as an array of other chamber music, this volume is an important resource for Tailleferre enthusiasts, but otherwise an enjoyable program of compelling music from an unfortunately, and unjustifiably, under-rated composer. Especially enjoyable is the gorgeous "Berceuse" for violin and piano.I also thoroughly enjoyed the Sonate pour violin et piano #2 of 1951(which opens the program) and the brief but enchanting "Rondo" for oboe and piano. The booklet, with notes by the composer's biographer, Robert Shapiro, is quite informative and interesting--her life was uncharacteristically adventurous, given her gender and the fact that she was born before the dawn of our own century. She lived in America during WWII having lived in New York City in the 1920's while married to cartoonist Ralph Barton. Highly recommended release. Enjoy!

This review is from: Germaine Tailleferre: Chamber Music (Audio CD)
I've had this record for over a year and have grown to like it a great deal. Aside from including all her works for violin and piano, it also has most of the chamber works that Tailleferre produced in 1973, all of them enchanting, but it is a pity that they couldn't have squeezed the Forlane for flute in as well (it would have just fitted). The selection of solo piano works is bewitching. This disc is well filled and delightful, and because there is no competition it is valuable. I would urge everyone to explore Tailleferre's work. She has absorbed the virtues and lessons of Satie and Debussy and Ravel completely into her own unique sound, which is just as original and valuable as those great composers.
