I enjoy this entire series of books, especially when I need order of battle. I had no doubts is would be a good book when I purchased it. The author gives great background on the 7th Flieger Division, especially after its fracturization in Russia. Took me 30 years and this book to get it straight. Good job! In addition, he covered in great detail the schools for the German paras, and also the Italians. His detailed work on the Italian paras was a real bonus, just as detailed as the German section. He also covered the San Marco Marines and the Italian special forces units. Like the 22 Luftland Division, the author also covered the Italian La Spezia Division. Again, great job. If that wasnt enough order of battle, he also covered the SS 500/600 Batallion. Some of this I knew, but again, his attention to detail went much further. Many drops around the Med are covered, as well as the battles in North Africa. This is one supurb piece of work. I will look for more titles done by him!

Format: Paperback
The book provides a basic overview of German paratroopers in the post Crete environment in many ways. It covers training, weapons, organization (too much considering how many pages are dedicated to organization relative to other topics), how the troops were utilized and leadership. All and all a good but basic overview. The book spends too much time on organization, however, at the expense of other factors such as tactics and performance of these troops relative to that of other German forces as well as their counterparts in England and the U.S. Book also wastes valuable space discussing, in too many pages, Italian paratroopers. It needed, considering its small size (96 pages) to maintain more focus on its primary topic.
