Book Description

Men-at-Arms November 11, 2004
This third volume of a mini-series covering the German forces in World War I (1914-1918) examines the troops that fought during the climax of the war on all fronts: the last great battles of attrition in the West (Arras, Messines, 3rd Ypres - Passchendaele/Langemarck - and Cambrai, 1917) and the collapse of Russia in the East. The 'Kaiserschlacht' campaign is covered, as are the German operations in Italy, the Balkans, and in support of Turkey in the Middle East. Uniform changes during this period reflected the introduction of new tactics and weapons and new types of troops, such as tanks and assault battalions.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...beautifully illustrated and the eight color plates show off a variety of WWI uniforms/equipment that are appropriate for armies that fought in the RCW...fills a very necessary spot in my wargaming library... As always, Osprey books form the first line of any 'attack' on a new period of study!" -HMG Reviewing Stand

5.0 out of 5 stars Late Great War Germans, June 5, 2007
This review is from: The German Army in World War I (3): 1917-18 (Men-at-Arms) (v. 3) (Paperback)
This is an excellent affordable book that covers the German army in the last days of the war. The book gives information on uniforms and equipment. Details on the status of the German Army in the given years. Also, the book provides what units existed, formed, dissolved in the years stated. I would also recommend buying the second part of this series. Because the third shows and discuses what new few uniforms were introduced and amendments to the uniforms introduced in 1915. While the second book gives a complete descriptions of the uniforms introduced in 1915. So in conclusion if you want the info on the late war German Army 1917-18 get this book as well as the second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 3 book set, June 23, 2008
This review is from: The German Army in World War I (3): 1917-18 (Men-at-Arms) (v. 3) (Paperback)
Osprey does this mini-series now and then. This 3 booklet mini series on the German Army covers broadly the range of uniforms and accoutrements worn during the Great War on all fronts. The coverage is good as it covers the main changes in uniforms at key points throughout the conflict.
The very nice illustrations are also quite inspiring. For the price, this mini-series should be worth getting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference, September 24, 2010

This review is from: The German Army in World War I (3): 1917-18 (Men-at-Arms) (v. 3) (Paperback)
This book has a lot of great information about the German Army during the final phase of the Great War. This is often a phase forgotten by historians... even as the stalemate continued on the Western Front there were still German units fighting in the Middle East and Africa and the seperate peace with the Bolsheviks allowed German access to parts of eastern Europe and the Caucasus even as the home front was collapsing under the burden of war. Illustrated with excellent artwork and photographs and backed up by rather extensive discussions of the composition of the imperial army this is a great book if you are interested in the Great War.
