5.0 out of 5 stars Let's party!
What I loved about this CD when I listened to the clips was that it sounded like a party and would make my Oktoberfest sound like even more of a blast than it was. It is everything I hoped it would be - WUNDERBAR!!! Perfect background music for an Oktoberfest Party!!! Just add sauerkraut and sausages, pretzels & beer, a good travel video of Oktoberfest, some blue and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Best to Enjoy When Drunk
This compilation of 14 German drinking songs has lots of noise and merry-making in the background. It is obvious that the singers are having a good time, having partaken liberally in the products of the Braumeister (or so it would seem).

3.0 out of 5 stars Best to Enjoy When Drunk, November 15, 2001
This review is from: German Drinking and Beer Garden Songs: 14 All-time Favorites (Audio CD)
This compilation of 14 German drinking songs has lots of noise and merry-making in the background. It is obvious that the singers are having a good time, having partaken liberally in the products of the Braumeister (or so it would seem).

While the songs include all the favorites of German Kneipekriecheren (pubcrawlers), which all good Bavarians know by heart, the loud party noises makes the lyrics difficult to understand, even if you're fluent in Deutsch. My personal favorites include "Bier Hier" (misspelled in the liner notes) and "In Munich Steht ein Hofbrauhaus."

What the heck. Pour yourself a Hefe-Weisen or three and enjoy!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Much audience noise., October 20, 1999
This review is from: German Drinking and Beer Garden Songs: 14 All-time Favorites (Audio CD)
I realize some people like to "relive" their beer garden experience, and might find this album to their taste, but I like my music as pure as possible. Among my not listened to albums are about 10 of these type with glasses clanging, people talking, chairs moving, clapping, and foot stomping. You can have them. It's not for me.

It is everything I hoped it would be - WUNDERBAR!!! Perfect background music for an Oktoberfest Party!!! Just add sauerkraut and sausages, pretzels & beer, a good travel video of Oktoberfest, some blue and white streamers and balloons, a game of Dutch Blitz, throw in some swaying at the table and some line dancing to and from the kitchen, and finish with the Chicken Dance (which you'll have to find on another CD). Oom-pa-pa good!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Know Ol' Dipper Would Approve!!!, January 6, 2003
This review is from: German Drinking and Beer Garden Songs: 14 All-time Favorites (Audio CD)
As several people I know will verify, I loooove beer, I like singing (and do it loudly and poorly), and I have a fondness for the frauleins. I also have a fairly extensive collection of German Beer Hall music and am rather pleased to have found this nicely-priced gem for the offing.

For starters, the cover contains what is surely a dead ringer for my old drinking buddy Dipper Lips. The songs have an Ol' Dipper ring to them as well--lots of hunting songs, all drinking songs, and songs of general merriment altogether. That's an ace in the hole. Another plus is the price. It's a pretty full disc and the sound quality is about on par with most of these discs (i.e., average). Crowd noise is a tad loud (you won't notice after your second stein) and (of course) the singing is all in German (I don't speak a lick, but thisn't doesn't detract from the fun--just reminds me of the days I used to spend in the German beer halls during my "fugue of discovery" when I was in my early twenties). The only real negative is the liner notes don't contain the lyrics (let alone a translation).

In spite of the few minor drawbacks, I found this collection of fun songs to be well worth the price and a great companion for lonely drinking daze. And I am still certain that's my old chum Dipper on the cover.

This CD has a good mix of songs, all of which have crowd noise in the background. Good if your party is not too well attended! But the CD quality skipped a bit on my computer. Also, there were no lyrics enclosed, which disappointed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better, October 5, 2000
This review is from: German Drinking and Beer Garden Songs: 14 All-time Favorites (Audio CD)
Being German, and having been to numerous beer fests I'd just like shoppers to know that these are the songs Germans sing at their festivities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Music, September 13, 2010

I thoroughly enjoy listening to this CD. I feel like I'm right in the middle of a bavarian beer hall. I have no trouble hearing the music over the background noise like other reviewers report and can't hear the first clattering dish or glass and don't think the songs trail off. The whistling and clapping of the revelers add to the ambiance. It's fun happy music and it gives me a real energy boost. I bought it for background music for an Oktoberfest celebration but honestly think I'll be listening to it off and on year round. It will leave a smile on your face.

3.0 out of 5 stars Trust your instincts when deciding to buy this one., August 29, 2008
This review is from: German Drinking and Beer Garden Songs: 14 All-time Favorites (Audio CD)
Yes, everyone does mention the crowd noise in the background. You can hear it when sampling the music, it's overwhelming, but I still couldn't resist buying it because it just sounds like everyone is having such a good time. I think that's the "hook." I may use it at my Oktoberfest, but for those who like to sing along, or even attempt to, this will prove difficult to do with this CD unless you already know the words and melody. I would say you hear 25% voice and 75% crowd. If they could have only reversed that, this CD would be perfect for me. But if that's what your looking for, Prost!
