Nowotny was highly decorated for his 258 aerial victories, but was well known, above all, for his deployment and command of the Messerschmitt Me 262 Erprobungskommando. Later his "Kommando Nowotny" was the first combat operational jet fighter unit in history (Nowotny won three spectacular air victories with the Me 262). Factual and neutral, this illustrated book explores his short life, and is a highly interesting contribution to World War II aviation history.

If a picture tells a thousand stories this is the book. This is an incredable documentary on Walter Nowotny. The young super aces of the Jagdflieger were metioric success and heroes to thier people. Walter Nowotny was no exception. In a brief period of time he elavated himself to a status equal to todays rock stars. He was not around to be interviewed about his rise to greatness, but this book does a great job (mostly through photos)of telling the story. I was skeptical at first, but found this well worth the purchase price. I like the fact that a lot of photos were used to chronologicaly develope the time line. Without to much writing (there is a great deal of writing)you can feel Karl "Quax" Schnorrers' great pain at the loss of a great commander, comrade and friend. If you are interested in Walter Nowotny at all, this is like having a family photo album (with many great captions). This is probably the best way to truly appreciate this great flier!!!! Enjoy
