As a native German folksinger, I can confidently tell you that this CD ROM is the best you can find on German folk songs. The Sterndreher are a highly talented and very authentic group of German folk song artists. Both their singing and their instrumentals are of the highest level of arttistic performance.

When I recently heard this CD I was overcome with joy. I had forgotten how romantic and beautiful German folk songs can be. These songs have nothing to do with the unfortunately too often presented so called "German Folk Songs" which are either kitchy pop songs or terrible beer and drinking songs. This is folk art at it finest and one can feel the harmony and joy the singers must experience when they perform this music. Yes, finally a real tribute to the old German folk music untouched by abuses of the recent history. Thank you so much Sterndreher!!!

I haven't spent much time in Germany, but this CD manages to evoke all the sweetest memories I have of my travels there and of my childhood in a German home.

I don't believe you have to understand German to be moved by this collection. Soothing voices accompanied by guitar, this makes a nice CD for us to listen to when we want to realx.

I received the CD today and immediately went to share it with my mother, a native German. I grew up at the piano, singing these and many other songs with her, and she grew up singing even more of them in the Stube while my Opa accompanied on Mandolin. We have few opportunities anymore to sit down together as we once did, but listening to "Die Blaue Blume," my mother and I couldn't help but join in the singing. The group's voices are lovely, the accompaniments perfectly suited to the text and melody...really a joyful listening experience. Of course, we are familiar with the tunes, but I believe anyone truly interested in authentic folk music would not be disappointed in this CD. (I am thinking of my 17 year old son who loves the Singing Nun in French, although he knows nothing of that language. Good music transcends language barriers.) I will be sharing this with my children, as this kind of music is one of the best ways to share their heritage with them, and a boon to their budding language skills as well. My mother is telling all of her friends about it, and will even send one to our family in Germany, it is so "just right." Now if only they would produce a selection of Weinachtslieder!

This CD has the most beautiful German songs. I can even remember my German grandmother singing some of them to me. The songs on this CD are lovely and inspiring, even if you don't understand the words. Buy this CD before you buy one of those Oktoberfest CDs.

This CD is the best German folksong collection you can buy. The recording quality is near perfect, the vocals astounding, and the instrumentals are pure joy. I personally never thought the songs included could be sung as beautifully as they are, but they far exceded my expectations.

Even if you're exclusively into girly pop music or you are some old, spiteful, partially deaf hermit, you will enjoy this recording.

All aspects of it excel to the highest degree. If you were thinking of buying it, do so now. The only regret you'll have is that you didn't buy it sooner.
