A very nice knife!,
By rarany "rarany" (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NEW! German GLOCK 81 Root Saw Black Commando Knife (Misc.)
Since Glock makes high quality guns, it's not surprising that they also make a high quality knife. You can think of this knife as a high-bred. It's long and thin like a Gerber Mark 2 fighting knife, but with the saw-toothed back edge and hooked finger guard, it also serves as a life-saving tool like a Ka-Bar Marine combat knife.
I'm not an expert on new-age plastics, but the plastic sheath seems a little fragile. It might be just fine, but I would have preferred a leather or nylon sheath. This knife has good balance, but I don't think it was intended to be used as a throwing knife. All things considered, this is a good knife for most situations.

good, but saw is pointless,

This is a good knife. it really is. I've thrown it thousands of times. still no break. its made of spring steel so it will "give way" when it needs to, resulting in a less chance of you breaking it. (I haven't)the hand guard/bottle opener, will dent with excessive hits while missing your target hitting on the flat end. the spring steel stays strong, but does not retain a sharp edge at all. If you want a well balanced thrower, look no further. This is by far the best thrower you can get. It out performs others like Boker, cold steel, and the 100's of other throwers out there. Trust me, I've compared it to many, many throwing knives. If you are looking for a field knife, its ok. the saw is not good. the blade is not wide enough, and is so light in the hand, that you start feeling fatigue rapidly. but don't expect any big tasks done like chopping and such. This was designed after a bayonet style blade. It's a thrusting knife if anything. I bought it cause I wanted a well balanced thrower and was not dissapointed. If a thrower is what you are looking for, get this one. seriously. go to [...] to see my review on the non-serrated version. oh, and don't be fooled. it's not new. Its just called the 81 survival knife. all that fancy "root saw commando" stuff is nice sounding though...

Not fit for purpose,

This review is from: NEW! German GLOCK 81 Root Saw Black Commando Knife (Misc.)
I bought this as an emergency survival knife, but I will be throwing it in the trash. I'm not worried that the garbage-man will cut himself on it, because the knife can't keep a sharp edge. I tried to sharpen it to no avail, and I am fairly experienced.
The "saw" is completely and utterly useless. It is blunt and doesn't remove much wood from the cut. I have seen original WW1 "Schlachtmesser" sawback bayonets, and I can tell you those sawbacks were still razor sharp after almost 100 years! Glock has made an excellent back scratcher, but a useless saw. Glock, please stick to guns. This knife is tough, but useless for it's intended purpose.
