This review is from: German At a Glance (At a Glance Foreign Language Phrasebooks) (Paperback)
I have a copy of this edition for the German Language as well as Japanese,
Spanish, Russian, French, Arabic and Chinese editions. These phase books have a map on the front and back cover of the important cities or subway systems. These books are light, pocketable and indexed by subject. It also has a basic bi-lingual dictionary. If you want to invest a few more dollars they come along with CDs under the title "Now you are talking (language) in no Time". These also have a short page Audioscript to follow the CD.

This is almost perfect. I have a shelf full of German language books and guides, but whenever I travel there, I typically end up only taking this one. It's got way more information than you could possibly need, and that's comforting to me. Lots of possibilities around food or shopping or problems or tourism. I've found some phrases in it I haven't found elsewhere, and it's encyclopedic. One important note: you do not say "Herr Ober, zahlen bitte" when you want to pay. "Zahlen bitte" is fine as is, and Herr Ober is really old-fashioned.
