Stolfi does an excellent job at describing why the German panzers were so effective during the first three years of the Second World War. Stolfi believes that the Germans succeded in armor warfare because they had a small staff system that allowed German officers to use their personal intiative in battle as seen though various actions on the Eastern Front where panzer commnaders would take advantage of gaps and weaknesses of the Soviet army. Stolfi also writes that the Germans would use infantry and artillery in combination to repell Soviet attacks and artillery and antiaircraft guns that were tied to the panzer divisions caused massive losses to Soviet tanks and aircraft. I would reccomend this book to anyone interested in German armor doctrine during the Second World War.
