This is not only a great book to read, but an even more fun one to browse because it is packed with interesting photographs!, August 29, 2009
This review is from: German Shepherds Are the Best! (Best Dogs Ever) (Library Binding)
If you like playing a lot of video games, enjoy being a couch potato, hate vacuuming and detest exercise, but are thinking you'd like to get a German shepherd as a pet, you'll either have to change your ways or get a cat. Naturally, when you decide to get any sort of pet, it is a serious commitment and each breed of dog comes with its own special considerations. For example, German shepherds are very loyal, so loyal that they "must learn not to overprotect their owners." In addition to being loyal they are very smart and are noted for their bravery. They are a large and beautiful breed, but if you live in a small apartment this may not be for you. This dog needs a LOT of exercise!
German shepherds can be short- or long-haired and come in an assortment of colors. They are "eager, alert, and bold." The shepherd is in the herding class, but can be quite a worker. They "have been known to perform heroic acts," they are herders, guide dogs, guard dogs, help the military, work with the police, and are used as search and rescue dogs. Talk about versatile! You will also learn their training needs, how they need to be socialized, how much exercise they need, what type of games you can play with them, what equipment you'll need prior to bringing your dog home, its grooming needs, their veterinarian care, what they need to eat (or not to eat) and much more.
This is not only a great book to read, but an even more fun one to browse because it is packed with interesting photographs. It is a very well written and researched book that any German shepherd fan will love. The author stresses many times in this book that this type of dog is not for everyone and makes it perfectly clear why. However, if this type of dog appeals to you and would be a proper fit in your home, you'll be "friends to the end." The only thing the author neglected to mention on the "welcome home" list was the need to purchase a good vacuum (just kidding). One famous German shepherd "received more than ten thousand fan letters a week." Can you name him?

This is a great book - FOR CHILDREN - unfortunately the description didn't say that. I'll be donating it to the library.
