Using Linguaphone Beginner - Intermediate, October 20, 2011
This review is from: German All Talk Complete Language Course (16 Hour/16 Cds): Learn to Understand and Speak German with Linguaphone Language Programs (Audio CD)
I bought this 16-hour German course after exhausting the Pimsleur series. I bought the Pimsleur complete course years ago before moving to Germany and went through the whole course in less than a year, then found myself trying this and trying that to keep moving. Unfortunately, while I like Pimsleur, you can't get very far with it because of the limited length of the course (Plus is the end).
I tried a few other things, then learned about Linguaphone. I listened to a sample and then bought the 16 hour beginner - intermediate portion. I've been very happy. It covers some of the same ground as Pimsleur and does it in a similar fashion (slightly less repetitive), but moves on further than Pimsleur.
It's also a lot cheaper than Pimsleur. Frankly, I wish I'd have found this first instead of spending $400 on the Pimsleur stuff.
I highly recommend this course. Just pop the CDs in while you're driving and you'll be speaking German before you realize it. The course works by taking you through situations - renting a car, reserving a hotel room, meeting someone for the first time ... and it continually builds on your experience. But there's also a story threaded through the course involving Stephan (a German guy) and an English woman named Jane, who's stuck in Munich on business and is learning from Stephan to speak Deutsch. It's not an riveting story, but it's pleasant enough to keep you moving through the course.
