5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Reference Material, September 5, 2004
This review is from: German U-Boat Losses During World War II: Details of Destruction (Hardcover)
This book consists almost entirely of tables and charts, so it doesn't exactly make compelling reading. Nevertheless, it provides a complete listing of all U-boats built or contracted for World War II, as well as detailed tables, by vessel type, of all U-boat losses. While a handful of boats have now been found to have been lost in different locations than what was believed in 1961, Niestle's work remain a primary reference source for any submarine scholar. If you want a great story about a U-boat, read Das Boot. If you need to know where U-652 was sunk, by who, and how many men were rescued, this is the book you're looking for.
