Now that I have read this wonderful resource completely, I intend to reread it over several times. It is packed with information covering not only the historical events of Germany and the European Empires, but historical maps, a timeline, query letters written in English and German, addresses of National and Provincial (State) sites that can either assist you or provide you with copies of records. This book is a trove of valuable information to anyone researching their ancestry. I was so appreciative of all the resources offered in this book. I purchased this book used, for an excellent price. The binding was old and a number of pages became detached however. I merely taped them, so I can reuse this book again. It looks like a workbook, so you would want to read it at a desk or on your lap. I love maps, and the maps in this book are extremely helpful in understanding how the boundaries of several European countries changed with each succession of Rulers. It also explained each of the Reichs or Empires in Germany. Now I understand what is must have been like, living at the time of the Germanic Tribes, the Hapsburgs, Charlemagne, Ottoman Turks, the migration of both German and Slavic groups, and especially all the turmoil dished out to the Jewish population. The Russian, Prussians, the disappearance of Poland... it's all clearly represented in this wonderful book. It was an enjoyable read...not philosophical, not too lengthy, and very informative.
