This book was a disappointment...,

This review is from: Germany in Pictures (Visual Geography (Twenty-First Century)) (Hardcover)
... I was expecting a book with large glossy photos of the most beautiful scenery that Germany has to offer, but instead this flimsy small book had a lot of information on Germany with several thumbnail pictures. Its best place is a library, however ifyou're looking for PICTURES and VISUAL like a coffee table type book, this is NOT it.

I love this book. I am of German descent and preparing for a trip to Germany to do some family history research.
Germany has been short changed in the tourism department, I believe, probably because of the War. I'm thoroughly sick of reading about that War. This book, on a basic level, gives me quite a bit of other history, discusses famous people, tells me about the culture, which I am particularly interested in, and then sites for further reading. It is a kid's book, but I usually start there and then go to the adult books when I find the areas that I really want to study in depth. It's a great beginning for adults and I'm sure teenagers would find it very informative too.

When I received my Amazon purchase, Germany in Pictures (Visual Geography)(Twenty First Century) to gift a College student, I expected a nice thick, impressive book and was disappointed at first look. However, when I started reading through the pages I discovered a huge amount of internet sites that connected to all the photos and information on Germany that any college student, studying Germany, could possibly want! I realized the enormous value of the book, including the extra I paid for express shipping, by the amount of research that went into compiling this book. The student loved it and I felt proud to gift it to her. As an after thought, I searched the book options not knowing what to choose and can't believe I actually chose the best option of all available books on Germany considering that students prefer the internet to books, and no book could ever cover the information in all the web sites printed. There is a series of these books covering many countries which I would highly recommend to students, travelers, or anyone.

This is a really quick read with a lot of good facts about the country.
It is a little dated but it was surely worth the $5 I spent. Make sure you pair it with over $25 in purchases so you can get free shipping. |
