Grade 6-8-- A broad overview of the last 1100 years of German history--all in 36 pages. The short passages cover Charlemagne, Bismarck, Kaiser William II, the Weimer Republic, Hindenburg, Hitler, the division of the country, and the beginning of reunification. Although greatly simplified, the account is, by and large, successful. Illustrations consist of paintings, historical photographs, brightly colored maps, and recent full-color captioned photos. The section on the reunification and the future of Germany presents some interesting questions and information. The authors conclude by comparing and contrasting the two Germanies. A useful addition to geography/history sections.
