There seem to be many complaints about the price. I understand that the extreme cost is a direct result of being a specialized subject with limited sales potential, coupled with high costs involved in accurate translation. If you read German then obviously you should get the less costly originals.

What gives with this price? Who can afford it? For crying out loud, if this is what I think it is the price should be at least under $100.00 per volume. At that it would be selling in volumes, not singly. If there is anyone at Oxford reading this, please reduce the price for us mere mortals. Please.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Germany and the Second World War: Organization and Mobilization in the German Sphere of Power, Wartime Administration, Economy, and Manpower Resources 1942-1944/5 (Germany and the Second World War, Vol 5/II) (Hardcover)
There seem to be many complaints about the price. I understand that the extreme cost is a direct result of being a specialized subject with limited sales potential, coupled with high costs involved in accurate translation. If you read German then obviously you should get the less costly originals.

Nobody complains about the contents, which are outstanding to say the least. I certainly can't suggest any of these volumes to the casual student of the war, the reading is dense at times, and very heavily footnoted, but it gives some of the most detailed perspective and analysis I've encountered. For the very serious scholar, the series is priceless!

My personal reference library wouldn't be complete without the volumes published to date. Obviously the collection holds a special place on my bookshelf.

-- PS -- can someone explain why Amazon allows a review to be posted by an individual who don't even posses the book in question, and has in their review the words, "If this is what I think it is?"

What happened to human understanding of the old adage - You can't judge a book by it's cover?
