Book Description

January 15, 2006 4 and up Best Behavior Series
Achoo! Cough! F-L-U-S-H! What to do? In childcare, in preschool, at home, and everywhere, toddlers need to learn that germs are not for sharing. Rather than focus on what germs are, this book teaches the basics of not spreading them: Cover up a sneeze or cough. Hug or blow kisses when you’re sick. And most of all, wash your hands! Child-friendly words and full-color illustrations help little ones stay clean and healthy. Includes tips and ideas for parents and caregivers.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS–This title provides short, descriptive instructions for inhibiting the spread of germs. However, while Verdick does an excellent job of describing how to get rid of germs, she never touches on what they are or what they do, aside from a small note by a teddy bear doctor stating that Germs can make you sick. Simple colorful cartoons clearly depict the action. Some well-presented tips for parents and teachers on ways to use the book effectively with preschoolers and how to prevent the spread of germs at home or at school are appended. This book is a good choice for teaching youngsters the basics about hygiene, especially if used in conjunction with other materials that present germs and sickness in an age-appropriate manner.–Tamara E. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great book on preventing Germ Transmission March 15, 2007
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
Simple and to the point. Great book for the very young child on what to do when you sneeze, blow your nose, etc. It isn't a book about "just washing hands", it covers more than washing hands and opens up the opportunity to discuss when and where we find germs. Wonderful illustrations - bright and colorful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! It's great. April 5, 2008
Format:Board book
I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old and it quickly became his favorite book.

Now when it's time to wash his hands he tells me! He is always telling me "Germs are not for sharing." He also asks me for a tissue when he needs one and has stopped eating food that has hit the floor.

I think the charm of this book is the fact that it uses words like Achoo, Cough, Gurgle, Flush -- that I can say in a way that really gets his attention.

2 Thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective book about hygiene for young children July 28, 2011
Format:Board book
We like how this book is very straight forward and to the point about hygiene education. Sharing this book during class discussions about germs, hand washing, sneezing and other infection control topics can be a big help. Germs Are Not For Sharing is a good asset to have when there is an outbreak. Keep this book handy and share with your students whenever possible. It is also highly recommended to pair this book with a hygiene activity that SHOWS the principles found within the reading.
