Book Description

October 10, 1998
Two lonely boys born worlds apart learn the meaning of friendship and trust. It is thirteen years since the Battle of Sundor at the end of The Starstone. Gerrad, the Lake Lord's son, born the year after the battle, longs to meet Gom and share an adventure. On his twelfth birthday he sneaks off to find him. He meets Essie & Carrick and befriends a homeless boy. Does he find Gom? Sort of. And he gets his adventure, maybe more than he bargained for. At its end, his life is changed forever. This, the fifth book in the combined series, offers a rare outside view of Gom, and is the first span of the bridge that leads to the culmination of Gom's own quest. An exciting adventure in which Gom, busy working in his mother's magic dwelling, play a brief but crucial part!

4.0 out of 5 stars Continuation of a wonderful series, January 20, 2012

This is the 5th book in Grace Chetwin's series of fantasy books set in a rather unique realm. It all begins with Gom on Windy Mountain (Tales of Gom in the Legends of Ulm) and i do recommend that you read the earlier books, but this one has a new protagonist and his story is well worth reading on its own merits. I began reading Grace Chetwin's books years ago when I was still in school. The school library had the first five in this series and I was always disappointed that the series ended there. Now, almost 23 years later I have come across the series again and was delighted to find that in the intervening years the series of my childhood had acquired four additional volumes. As a child I loved them, as an adult who's reading habits range from Tolkien, to Jim Butcher, to Heinlein, I still found the new volumes enjoyable and loved sharing them with my son.
