4.0 out of 5 stars Stoically Among the 'Roo, December 7, 2001
This review is from: Gerroa Songs (Audio CD)
Admittedly, I bought this CD partially for its packaging. It is an usual cardboard envelope with a full color cover of Mr. Prewitt standing next to half a dozen kangaroos. Putting myself in his shoes, I know that MY facial expression would be completely different from his. Man, the sight, the smell, the touch of a kangaroo--that's something to get excited about!

The back of the packing explains the circumstances relating to the recording. It was done in low-key way in Australia. Interesting reading that got me interested in Mr. Prewitt. I already knew him as a member of the Sea & Cake. This packing made up my mind for me.

Inside this delicately designed package is a truly mesmerizing CD. Minimalistic guitar work, fluid bass and soft vocals grace this piece like a lace doily on my grandmother's coffee table. It's dark and moody with simple production. Great music for a lazy weekend afternoon.

All i can say is that Archer is simply a beautiful musician. This recording was done spontaneously at a house in Australia. It captures the true essence of music. It is under-produced,raw and very real.I wish more artists would release albums such as this one.It contains light minimal guitar, beautiful strings, and some haunting vocals. I recommend all of Archers work:)

It seems that people either give 5 stars, or completely rip something when reviewing something on Amazon. This is an EP, so for some reason all of the reviews give 3.5 or 4 stars. Yes it is short with 8 songs, but there is no fat. It is an atmospheric little gem of an album. There is no reason not to give this all the credit it deserves because it is an EP. It is not bright and produced like previous Archer Prewitt albums. I don't know what to say exactly. I saw that no one else reviewed this, and it really is very good. Like I said it is kind of a moody dark thing. I guess it was recorded in some old church on the coast of New Zealand(or maybe Australia.) Anyway, it's really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Album.....Prewitt's best CD!!!, February 12, 2011

I find this interesting that I found this album my favorite considering he recorded this album on a whim in Australia with some buddy musicians on a 8 track reel to reel(raw)and said it was the most relaxed recording experience he ever had. Apparently when Archer is relaxed he does his best music. Totally original and just beautiful. If you are going to get a Prewitt album get this one as your first album trust me.

This was the first Archer album I got and glad I did because this album rocks. This album is simply beautiful in words I can not explain. It is very day dreamy and I listen to it a lot because its so good. Perfect for a lazy evening doing nothing having a few bears while being inspired about something. Archer has a very cool singing voice. The reason I like this album and it works well is because he takes his time, is patient, and does not really seem to care if the album is ever released or not, let a lone if it is successful. He experiments with violins and cellos on some of the songs for an interesting touch. Also he equally combines songs with lyrics as well as songs with just instrumentals sans lyrics which I always like. It breaks up the monotony. The songs meants to be, the bay, waves waltz, her magic, and the song tell me now are my favorites. Tell me now is one of the most beautiful acoustic songs I have ever listened to in my life.

As slightly touched upon earlier, his other albums Wilderness and Three are almost completely different in sound-but still overall decent albums nonetheless. The other albums have 2 or 3 good tracks per album I like, but not the entire album like gerroa songs. You almost wonder if its the sam Archer Prewitt in the other albums. I have not got the white sky album yet. As I said the other albums three and wilderness are overall nice relaxing music worth picking up even if this does not match up to gerroa songs in genius. But I guess that would be hard to top in my opinion. Awesome work in this album archer Gerroa songs and thanks for being a musician and going out on your own. I guess Prekop is not the only great talent in the Sea and Cake.

If Prewitt makes more albums in the future I hope he goes back to Australia with the guys who he did gerroa songs with and tries to emulate this beautiful album as much as he can and be relaxed and not take the album seriously which would make it great.
