I have several of these kinds of candles because I spend half my year in the RV and half in a small wood cabin. I love candles but have had a few too many close calls to warrant them every day.
The other candles I have (Inglow) have a much more natural flicker and are indistinguishable from the real thing. Its been cause for some very funny situations with guests. One even tried to light one because they have a blackened wick. This candle isn't anywhere nearly as realistic. The wick looks like a drop of white plastic, but if you don't expect people to look in the thing, it shouldn't matter that much. The flicker is far too rapid and electric. It pops to dark to light to something in between looking more like an electrical short than a flame. The Inglow candles have a soft, almost imperceptible slowly undulating flicker, giving it a very realistic look. This one reminds me of those fake candle lights from the 70's. This might be ok if surrounded by better candles or on a high shelf somewhere. Avoid these and get the Inglow brands. Pros: The wax exterior is a nice touch Batteries are easily accessed Timer is very nice. You can set it and forget it. Cons: flicker is too "electric" and not realistic. The item was great but arrived all 3 candles damage. Was sent back to you and 3 more arrived damaged too. Those were returned and I was told I would be refunded my cost. I recieved credit for only one candle. Should be for 3 candles.

I purchased the light-colored vanilla-scented set of 3. It has proven to be a good purchase. I was concerned that these kinds of candles can appear tacky. However, this has not been the case. I position mine high enough so that the fake plastic wick/flame bit inside the opening on the top of the candle is not visible. In this way, the candles look clean, nice, and... candle-like. They are, actually, made of wax (some kind of paraffin, more accurately). The scent, of course, is almost not perceptible, which is just fine with me, as I did not expect it to last. The three settings are very helpful. I usually use the non-flickering candlelight/orange glow or the color-changing glow. In a dark room, the candle cannot be seen and the glow looks pleasant and magical. The fake flickering glow is not as successful in warming up a room, because someone familiar with these types of candles can recognize it as fake, which is somewhat annoying and tacky. The constant warm glow or the changing colors glow, on the other hand, are not meant to resemble an actual candle and, as I mentioned, in a dark room, look wonderful. One thing I would change about this product is to include a timer function; some candles on the market have a function whereby it is possible, in a very simple fashion, to choose a time when the candle will turn itself on every day for 8 hours. It would have been nice if these candles had an automatic shut-off timer or an automatic daily turn-on function.
