About the Author

Jason Thibeault received his undergraduate B.A. degree in English/Creative Writing from the University of California, Irvine. After unsuccessfully publishing his first novel, Ordinary Magic, he obtained his M.A. in English/Creative Writing from California State University, Northridge where he wrote most of a second novel, founded a literary magazine, taught creative writing, and realized the difficulties of raising a growing family on an academic salary. In 1998, Jason turned to his second passion, technology. Since then he has been working in the Internet space as a serial entrepreneur. Having raised over $15m in venture funding, he has launched several successful web-services and continues to work with venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. Leveraging his startup experience, Jason founded Dime Novel Publishing in 2010 to bring back serialized storylines for young readers embracing e-readers and tablets. In 2011, after 30 issues of serialized content, Dime Novel Publishing revamped its publishing model to focus more on serialized books rather than issue-based storylines. Gertrude’s Broken Wand, the initial book of the Marmalade series, was the first to be published under the new model and included paperback, hardcover, and electronic versions. Jason is currently the author of several Dime Novel Publishing storylines including Barty the Kid, Jake: Vampire Hunter, Marmalade, Dem0n, The Fantastic Adventures of Boyd Stone, and Conjunction. Dime Novel Publishing distributes its works through a variety of electronic and print channels including Apple’s iBookstore, Amazon Kindle, and Barnes and Noble. Jason currently lives in Chandler, AZ with his wife, four kids, and dog. You can follow him on his blog at and on twitter as well @jnthibeault.

Gertrude's broken wand was the best book i ever read. It was about twins who get lost in this mystical world. The girl winds up in the world called here. While their she brakes her magical wand and has to go on an adventure to fix the wand. On the way she meets a ogre, some wolves, and the guard at the castle. The girl learns that Gertrude didn't tell her everything about her situation. On the way she finds out that she is to take Gertrude's place in this world and will not be allowed to return home. Their is a chance that she will die from being hurt or disappear because the land would disappear and she would go along with it. The brother follows his sister into the magical world because she calls after him and he gets lost, but some goblins find him and pronounce him King. They ask him to lead the battle with the ogres. The sister is a witch by now and she lifts the curse that was cast on the world by naming it. She replants the garden to make the world beautiful. This book was very good and i hope this review inspires you to read it or enter this giveaway.

My boys enjoy a lot of different fantasy books, but would get frustrated at a young age when they couldn't read the books they wanted to read. This title helps bridge that gap from early reader to full fledged novel. Both my 8 and 11 year old enjoyed the story even though they can now read much longer books.

This is the first book in the Marmalade series written by Jason Thibeault and published by Dime Novel Publishing.

First before I go into detail on this book, let me tell you how much we loved it! Halloween is one of our favorite holidays in the year. Our house is known as the "Scary House." You will have kids in the neighborhood ask "Have you guys been to the scary house yet?" We love that our house is known as the "Scary House" because we put a lot of effort into decorating each year. So you can imagine how perfect that this book is for my family. What else would you expect from a book that has the curse of a perpetual Halloween? It is a perfect book that fits right in with our "scary house."

Our plan as a family was to read a chapter a day. The chapters are short and to be honest when you start reading the book there is no way you can just do one chapter a day! We were hooked within the first two chapters that we read. My kids wanted more and to be honest so did I!

So what is Gertrude's Broken Wand about?

On an otherwise normal 4th grade school field trip, Rebecca gets separated from her classmates while trying to find the bathroom. But when she slips in the dark and falls down a hole, she ends up in the land of here, an enchanted kingdom that is suffering from a powerful curse...everyday is Halloween.

But it's not costumed trick-or-treaters that roam the land nor is it candy they want. Ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, skeletons and a host of other baddies, eager for a taste of warm flesh, have turned the once beautiful land into a spooky landscape.
