Remember the first time you watched the neighbor's color TV and you never wanted to go back home to the old black and white Zenith again?

Well, so here's Tom Hachtman's extraordinary comic strip from the 1970s at long last in LIVING COLOR and you'll never go back!!!

If you've never seen GERTRUDE'S FOLLIES, you're in for a treat. Here is the 20th century's most famous lesbian couple giving Picasso, Hemingway, Fitzgerald and so many more of the salon groupies a hard, hard time!

You'll never think of this amazing period in the same way again!

Now it's time for an animated movie!!!

Tom Hachtman has done a great job getting sophisticated dialogue, that is, as good as off Broadway, and better than most Broadway now... sophisticated, silly and character-driven dialogue, into the bubbles of a zany, excellent famous person comic strip.

Gertrude's Follies melds the joy of great cartoon image with great caricature, slices and dices with fine writing chops, add a dash of hash, tea and sympathy (not!), slow burn, and ... VOILA.

OK, it really reminds me of E.C. Segar's original Popeye (a.k.a. Thimble Theatre) comic strips of the mid-30's, with Sea Hag, Eugene the Jeep, etc... or maybe Dick Tracy at his best in the characters... and obtuse stylization. Or maybe just the best of both. In some ways.

So if you like classic comics, with great writing, and those famous characters acting kinda like what you might expect, but THAY DON'T!
... just get this tome for yourself, and maybe get a gift one, for somebody who's as hip as you are, that you love. It makes a wonderful gift, I know!

Also, hey, this time, they're all in glorious, living color!

That fun-loving den mother of the Lost Generation is back with her old gang of newly colorized colorful characters! All your favorites from the Soho Weekly News comic strip are here; Alice B. Toklas, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway and, of course, Gertrude herself. So, don't bogart that brownie, my friend, buy this book and party like it's 1929!

Hachtman used to draw for the Soho news circa 1980. He still cracks me up. My copy came with a hand-drawn picture in the blank front page signed by the author. It made a great gift!
