Editorial Reviews

Blu-Ray pressing. 2012 live release from the Grammy-nominated producer, writer and performer, best known as founder and front man of British rock band Porcupine Tree. Following the release of his solo album Grace For Drowning, Steven embarked on his first ever solo tour, assembling a virtuoso band, featuring Marco Minnemann (drums), Nick Beggs (bass), Theo Travis (flute and sax), Adam Holzman (keys) and Niko Tsonev (guitars), to accompany him. For the shows he worked extensively with Lasse to create a show unlike nothing else that he had ever done with his other bands, Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-Man or Bass Communion. The shows submerged fans in a rich sensory experience: rear speakers provide surround-sound effects, giant screens show off Lasse's films made specifically to accompany these songs, and cutting-edge lighting designs giving texture to each song. Get All You Deserve captures one of the highlight shows from the tour. Recorded at a sold-out Teatro Metrop¢litan in Mexico City, the gig features tracks from both Wilson's solo albums along with the new, as yet unreleased, track 'Luminol'.

I had this problem and the cool thing is that this solution was provided by Steven Wilson himself because I wrote my concern about it here. Some people don't say anything but my ears don't lie.

This is another flawless release from the talented Mr Wilson surrounded by a gang of talented musicians. Enjoy as much as I do and BUY IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Musicianship at it's finest! September 25, 2012
My family and I had the pleasure to witness the April 9th show in Dallas, TX (4 days prior to the filming of this production)... hands down one of the BEST live music experiences of my life. In this age of gargantuan, 1,000 megawatt, flashy stage productions, Steven and his band manage to overpower all the visual eye-candy with pure talent and emotion. Excellent production from film-maker and photographer, Lasse Hoile, the beautiful quality of this high-definition blu-ray made me feel like I was there again... simply amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it All! September 26, 2012
Steven Wilson is showing the most of his experimental side on his solo project. I got the impression that he can display his freedom more on this than with Porcupine Tree and Blackfield. By adding a lot more variety of keyboards sounds (mellotron, piano), sax and flute, we get more intriguing sounds that enchanted the music to something new and original. The 2 hours of music on this DVD is a journey through the mind of a genius that make you experience a wide range of atmosphere from the quiet part of a piano, the delicate vocals harmonies and the agression of a guitar exploding suddenly. Sometimes we are hearing the melancholic music of Blakfield, a lot of times, the heavy prog of Porcupine Tree, also, the mellotron, the sax and the flute take you back to the first King Crimson's era.

The concert start slowly with some strange visual effects that are created with a curtain on the stage, that made the concert look like a old footage. The curtain is remove during the "Sectarian" song, so we can now have a clear view of all the members. And it seem to me that the show really takeoff here, with this excellent song. After the band go on to play some intense music, especially with "Postcard", the first time release track; "Luminol" and the epic, "Raider II".

The DTS mix of Steven Wilson is another example of what his a perfect surround mix. The separation between all instruments is clear. You can hear different instruments in the rear speakers with a sound that is well balanced.

This concert give you a new experience not only for the music, but for the visuals, very different from the Porcupine Tree's DVD. And it gets my highest recommendation!

5.0 out of 5 stars I got more than I deserve with this one!! November 17, 2012
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
WOW, this was like being right in the audience, at the concert.
I saw a you-tube track of one of the songs & immediately thought, I must have this Blu-Ray!

After the usual ritual of removing the shrink wrap, and inserting the disk, and hitting the play button on my BR player, I was THERE for 2 hours.

I was introduced to Wilson's music when listening to a Prog web radio show back when "Lightbulb Sun" was released.

My esteem for him grew, when I listened to his remasters of the King Crimson classics in 5.1 surround.

Seeing and hearing him with his current lineup is just an amazing evolution of a musical master at his best.

Wilson has absorbed Crimson/Floyd/Mahavishnu Orchestra (Adam Holzman's keys), and regurgitated a totally new, and involving Prog/Jazz fusion Mash up that is destined to become a classic.
I can't wait for this band's next release!

5.0 out of 5 stars I got what I deserved! November 9, 2012

Steven Wilson's solo tour supporting 'Grace For Drowning' was an awesome sonic event. I was very excited to learn that a show from that tour was going to be available on DVD & Blu-ray. Steven's work is always engineered so well (by Steven himself), that the sound quality you get on his recordings is unrivaled. That's probably why many classic progressive albums have been remastered by Wilson, like King Crimson and Jethro Tull. Wilson has always surrounded himself with amazing musicians to complement his projects, and the 'Get All You Deserve' tour was no exception. The camera work is very good too. Not so many effects to make it seem like it was created in a studio, but a great representation of the live concert. Hopefully, you have Blu-ray and a 5.1 surround sound system to take full advantage of this excellent collection of modern progressive music and visual artistry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful document of Steven Wilson's next phase January 1, 2013

(Note: this applies to the Blu-Ray version.)

When one approaches a concert video there are two things to consider - the actual musical performance, and the way the video presents that performance.

First the performance itself. For those who have seen the tour live or have heard either the previous live release "Catalogue, Preserve, Amass"; or any of the (ahem) "unofficial" recordings that are floating around, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. SW stated frequently as the tour legs progressed that the band had, in fact, come together as a true band, not just a group of hired hands following a score. Yes, the nature of the music is such that many portions of the performance are the same each night; but to hold this as a negative is as meaningless as saying that an orchestra performing a classical piece plays the same notes every night - that's how it is written! So one has to look at the nuances - how the band performs in those areas where there are opportunities for personalization. And I use the term personalization rather than improvisation because improvisation implies stepping outside of the main structure is such a way as to create almost a new piece. That is not the nature of the music in this case; and so while the music is certainly not what would be considered "classical" music, it is more true to that approach than to a jazz band that would take a basic structure and go off (for better or worse) in entirely new directions (note: that does NOT mean this is classical music - it is rock, leaning toward rock-jazz fusion).
