Biography

Harlem-born singer Kelis gained more attention in Europe than in her home country with her Neptunes-produced debut album Kaleidoscope (1999). The first single, "Caught Out There", became a huge hit in the UK, and established Kelis as an interesting new artist thanks to it's distinctive hook - Kelis angrily shouting "I hate you so much right now!". However, her second album Wanderland (2001) wasn't… Read more in Amazon's Kelis Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Get Along With You is her best work yet., November 10, 2001
This review is from: Get Along With You (Audio CD)
Kelis has a lot to ask for to top this single. The song is one of her best ever.In 'Get Along With You' she creates a ballad-like song,(with a typical Neptunes beat)and the spooky and yet beautiful shows how poetic the song really is , but the remixes do not do the song justice and are not a patch on the amazing remix of 'Good Stuff' by Junior Vasquez which was not his normal 'club mix' style. Anyway here are the tracklistings.

1.Album Version - A haunting melodic song which despite its repeated chorusline has a great blend of strings, drums and a rolling beat (of course laid on by the Neptunes). The spoken diary interlude at the end is great and gives the song a great lead to trail off into. 5/5

2.Soul Inside Radio Mix - A short radio mix of the song in major key. Its simple acoustics make this a touching remix which has elements which almost make it better than the original.4/5

3.Bump & Flex Radio Edit - Despite Bump & Flex (Grant Nelson & Zed Bias) being a UK garage act they actually manage to pull off this remix quite well and do not lose the bassline that gives it its well earned edge. The only hitch is that it's a bit faster (which could be good or bad) and Kelis' vocals are sped up. Otherwise very nice. 4/5

4.Morales Radio Edit - Morales turns this song into a disco tune which lacks potencial but is otherwise danceable. The only problem is that it lacks the cool vocal toyings in the middle you get with Hex Hector or Junior Vasquez. The words of the song don't really fit the tune. It is okay, but nothing special. 3/5

Overall, a great CD. My only critisism is that these are all edits and the Morales Radio Edit could be better. PS : Watch the stunning video. It is a hidden gem.....

5.0 out of 5 stars The Morales Edit is stellar, May 20, 2008

Kelis' "Get Along With You" was one of my favorites when I heard it on the Greatest Hits comp released earlier this year, and I was ecstatic when I found out it recieved the Morales treatment on this single. David Morales really pulled out a great mix here, with all the right elements - housey drums, excellent rhodes and pads, and just the perfect amount of vocal tricks (the looped "you took my heartbeat from me"). My other favorite is the Bump & Flex Radio Edit, which is a really cool nujazz vibe. The Soul Inside mix is a bit stale.
