Editorial Reviews

If it’s lost, they’ll get it back. Doesn’t sound difficult, but when you throw in strange mutant powers and back it up with one of the top manga franchises in North America, it’s easy to understand why Get Backers is such a fan favorite anime series!

4.0 out of 5 stars getbackers get better February 7, 2007
I was hooked on getbackers from the get go. Season 2 in many ways is almost better than the first. The humour is more outrageous and the action is more compelling. Ban and Ginji are still as unlucky with money as always, but slowly the story begins to unravel the mystery of these two unfortunates in material wealth but wealthy in friendship.

I have watched alot of anime in my time, but this is a stand alone series that is well worth the watch.

That being said its one major flaw is the fact that the series tries to see the good in everyone no matter what. So it can come across as a little bit pretentious, but it is a nice idea never the less that friendship and compassion can overcome any obstacle and in that the series gets better.

If you have seen the first season of GetBackers and were somewhat dissatisfied with the ending than the second season completes most of those questions from the first. Half of the second season has Ban and Genji doing their usual job that at the end either causes them to not get paid or having to pay the damages with no money at the end. The rest of the season has them going back to the Limitless fortress to find out what has happened both with Makubex and the other people living inside the Limitless fortress. I do advise that people watch the first season to know who the characters are and what is going on with the series because if you don't you'll probably be confused for most of this season. The series is mostly light-hearted until the second half than it becomes a bit more dramatic. While there are fight scenes they aren't truly bloody or gory so this series can be seen by both adults and kids alike. The video is widescreen and the picture is clear and sharp. The Japanese voice actors did a terrific job as did most of the English voice actors though there are one or two that the English voice cast could have done without. I say to anime fans that this series is definitely one for their collection to get. Also I've seen that they have a new Getbackers 1&2 box set so for the price I say buy that one but if you're still unsure about this series try watching this series on t.v.(They show some episodes on the G4 channel and International Channel on Cox Digital Cable) and see if you like the series enough to get this new box set..

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Anime September 14, 2012

I read the manga for this before I watch the anime and I have to say that I was impressed at how much they actually translated over to the screen. Like all anime, there are some things that were left out because they were either too heavy (and there are a lot of those moments here) or because it just didn't work with the flow of the anime. However, the main storyline is pretty much similar and I loved the second season the most. I was impressed and continue to want more of this series.
