This review is from: Get Big (Audio CD)
These days unless you're name is Rick Ross, T.I., Drake, or Kanye West you can forget about promotion. With the internet booming the free99 downloads, most labels won't even try and it's not because the artist isn't talented is because it's not worth it. Case in point; Dorrough. The man came on the scene out of nowhere with Ice Cream Paint Job last year and it was a successful song. He had a few hits off his debut album. His sophomore album Get Big just kind of showed up. Did he even have a single for this album???Coming from Dallas, Dorrough has a great deal more talent than most of the wannabes coming from there in the last few years. He has a fluid flow and can actually rap pretty well with the ability to switch content and sound right at home; whether it's a club song, female song, or an introspective/life type track. It's because of this I'll be checking his work out because he'll have a few gems in there. On Get Big, you can see the growth of the artist. But unfortunately with this growth comes less recognition. That's ok though because Dorrough is making some great music. With songs like Trouble, Way Better, and Breakfast In Bed it's clear to see that Dorrough only needs the proper direction. He goes astray on a few tracks trying not to alienate his initial fanbase and that's where the album falters. Nonetheless, Dorrough's sophomore album is worth a few listens. In between some of the filler are some real bangers that show his potential. I suggest you check him out if you can. 3.5 stars.
