Get Blondie Didn't Get Better,
This review is from: Get Blondie (Silhouette Bombshell #3) (Mass Market Paperback)
New to the Bombshell line, I started with Get Blondie, and as I read the first fifty or so pages, I kept thinking, Get Blondie better get better. There were lots and lots of expositive paragraphs, full of background information so we could get to know the characters. I felt that Cassie Newton, the heroine, was a little off with her homeless background, druggie mother, rescue by stuntman-in-a-wheelchair, and recruitment into a secret agency, SPACE. The plot of this book was simple: Cassie was pulled back into her former employer's web to go undercover and obtain evidence to stop a philanthropist's vengeful plot to destroy the drug trade. He's attracted to blondes, it seems, and Cassie's just the girl to handle the job.
My attention waned through several sections, and I found it difficult to get into Cassie's head and feel what she was feeling because I was told, not shown, in several instances. There was only one section where I thought the author handled Cassie and her former lover/partner with an awful soap opera name, Kane McNabb, very well, and it wasn't even a love scene. By the conclusion, when the bad guy gets his reckoning -- and you know that's going to happen because that's how these work, even in male-dominated fiction -- I really didn't care anymore. If you're looking for a good Bombshell read with complex themes and a kick-ass undercover operative, check out Judith Leon's CODE NAME: DOVE instead.

exhilarating police procedural romance,
This review is from: Get Blondie (Silhouette Bombshell #3) (Mass Market Paperback)
City, Missouri police officer Cassandra Newton is pleased that her current job of arresting law breakers is a lot easier than her previous employment as a secret agent of the Special Personnel Against Criminal Element (SPACE). So when she receives a long stem white rose tied by a ribbon to a cell phone, she tosses the "gift" into the trash because that means SPACE wants her to call.
Cassandra's former partner and ex-lover Kane McNabb breaks into her home telling her that SPACE needs her help though she left five years ago. He explains that wealthy anti-drug crusader Adam Mercer, founder of Men Against Drugs, has gone crazy since his daughter died from an overdose. Adam plans to sell tainted deadly "Blue Snow" marijuana to kill many users and sellers. The only hope is to infiltrate the mad but brilliant Adam is a long legged blonde, his sole weakness; hence the recruiting of Cassandra to go undercover. GET BLONDIE is an exhilarating police procedural romance starring two fabulous law enforcement officials who hook the readers with their undercover battles. The story line is fast-paced, how ever the villain seems more like a feeble mourner instead of a potential mass murderer. Still the "romantic triangle" makes for an action packed thriller with a heroine who knows how to get her man. Harriet Klausner

This was the second book in the Bombshell Series that I have read. The first, DAUGHTER OF DESTINY, I gave 2 stars because it just wasn't very good. GET BLONDIE is a little better, so I give it 3 stars. Cassie and Kane's past history together seemed like it would have made a better book.

Let me say right off that I'm a fan of the Bombshell series & like the idea of strong women taking the lead in a more action-oriented story...with a touch of romance of course!
The pace is quick and no-nonsense and for the most part the heroine's fate is in her own hands -- she's not wringing her hands waiting to be rescued. GET BLONDIE serves it up. It won't change your life, but it's not supposed to. It's supposed to entertain. And it does. In spades. |
