5.0 out of 5 stars Get in the booth right now!, July 31, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Get in the Booth (Audio CD)
This album is truly a spectacular piece of work. No fillers, no sloppy production, just positive work on this fully accomplished debut. It's unfortunate that this album is so rare. I hope that when, if or if she gets a new record deal that she might keep this material on the new album, as it would truly be a waist to dicard this high quality pile of songs. Heres the run down of some of the more impressive songs, though all great (in random order)-

Hypnotised - A great opener. Pop beat, with rnb and pop sound effects. Great words, impressive climax to a ful chorus. Very well done with great vocals.

Love is real - A really strangely simple song. Quite pop drums. Uptempo, but balad-ish material. Really generally nice song, again with the odd rnb sound effect and again great sound effects.

No more miss nice - One of the highs on the album. A shining rnb stunner. Very catchy chorus, beat, and general tone. Quite fast, and again great vocals.

Ill be waiting - One of the few ballads,Down tempo, but probably the best. It's more simple than the others, but really just intrigueing. Just plain good vocals. I think it's sometimes very hard to produce ballads, but they've got this one right on the mark.

Forever - Beautiful ballad.Down tempo. This one is also a stunner. about pledging yourself to someone that you truly love. Also very well done. The production teams behind these songs are truly great.

2 out of 3 - Only on the original, original. It's Kind of ashame they took this off. It's quite rocky pop - But I can see why the wiped it off, because it does change the tone, and it is the only one of it's kind. Still very well done. Not as good vocals as on the others, but still a shiner!

It was you (ft so plush) - You probably Know this one by now. This an uptempo ballad with quite a strong rnb influence in certain parts (probably something so plush brought!). Really nice, and one of the songs on the pokemon 1st movie soundtrack. Very good vocals by ashley and so plush.

all I ever - I believe will be one of the future singles, if this material is continued with. Rnb/pop song, but Slightly more rnb than pop. Really catchy, and good vocals, with a good climax to another fuull chorus.

Hi Low - Another pop song, sounds like midtempo compared to the rest of the album. Quite catchy, though not as much as the likes of 5 x 5, love is real, Hypnotised or no more miss nice, but still a contender for a single (as is every other track.

5 x 5 - Remininscent of britney, twinked with a Blue touch (possibly from all rise!) Very poppy, very catchy, but also deffinitely a grower, as the chorus isn't really that catchy once you've heard the verse and mid 8.

Other shiners are deffinitely Why? and no matter what, which are both twinged with rnb touches.

Overall a very good original debut. Search all you can for it. Search download servers, Search ebay (There is currently an auction from onecentcds amongst others for the album, but prepare to bid high because it is highly sort after!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just another face in the crowd..., June 29, 2001

This review is from: Get in the Booth (Audio CD)
Newcomer to the pop scene Ashley Ballard has her work cut out for her. Her first album, "Get In The Booth," may sound very similar to others in the genre, most notably Hoku, Vitamin C and Mandy Moore. The smooth fourteen tunes on "Booth" may be click-track driven like all the rest, but Ashley holds a secret which you cannot discover from her first single, "Hottie," alone:

Ashley Ballard can sing.

Throughout all the tracks, most notably the ballads, Ashley lends her powerful voice to keep the vibe of "Southern California cool"--as this author likes to put it--flowing. Her vocals are rich and layered, and don't wimp out in the higher octaves. Simply put, Ashley can sing like Christina Aguilera.

If you're a pop lover who wants to add some dimension to your music collection, or if you simply liked "Hottie" when you heard it on the radio, get a copy of "Get In The Booth." You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid debut... Too bad she disappeared, July 14, 2008
This review is from: Get in the Booth (Audio CD)
Like most, I was introduced to Ms Ballard with the single Hottie and the 2 other songs she had on soundtracks like Pokemon and Center Stage. These 3 songs were well done, so I waited for the release of her debut.... And waited... Then I find out the record label buried her album and did not release it commercially. The only release of her cd went to radio stations and promo people. I hunted through the auction websites, looking for this cd. I finally got if for the cost of an import cd, and I feel it a well made purchase.

She has a wonderful voice, mixing between ballads and upbeat pop songs. While neither of the 2 songs she had on soundtracks was released on this disc it is still well rounds. The only thing I really noticed missing from Amazon was the track listing. Here is the track listing. If you can find it, pick it up.

Track Listing

1. Hypnotized

2. Hottie

3. All I Ever...

4. Forever

5. Hi Low

6. Girls Like Me

7. No Matter What

8. Second Thoughts

9. 5 X 5

10. Love Is Real

11. Why?

12. It Was You

13. No More Miss Nice

14. I'll Be Waiting

2.0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed... I was really rooting for Ashley, too..., August 31, 2004
This review is from: Get in the Booth (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Ashley Ballard since around the time Hottie was on radio (late 2000, early 2001.) I searched for her album like a stalker summer of 2001, but that was before I discovered that "Get In The Booth" was never officially released. There are still Advanced Promo copies that were given to radio stations out there (which is how I got mine). I was trying and trying to own this album for 3 years and now that I have it... I wasn't really impressed at all. Now I DO understand why her record label pulled the album... it just really isn't that good.

The only songs I really enjoyed were "Hottie" and the song "5 x 5" -- now THAT is a good pop song! It's catchy, hooky, totally infectious, and really sticks out from the rest of these songs. "5 x 5" is really the album's pop gem! I love it! Apart from those tracks, the rest are just grade-B, C, and even D pop songs. It seems like only "so, so" producers were working on the album. Even some great producers didn't contribute anything substantial to the album. Rodney Jerkins' "All I Ever...", "It Was You", and "Why" don't really stand out like his other songs for different artists do (like Whitney Houston, Spice Girls, etc etc). The songs are trite and boring, and are not really memorable. The song "Second Thoughts" is actually a sweet ballad, with some nice background vocals by Plus One. The rest of the uptempos like "Hypnotized," "Hi Low," "No Matter What," and "Girls Like Me" sound like they could've been good, but come across as cheesy pop productions, with VERY cliche lyrics. So apart from "Hottie," "5 x 5" and "Second Thoughts", I didn't find anything else "great" here unfortunately.

If Ashley could've worked with better producers and writers, I think she could've been successful. Another complaint too, I don't think the producers blended Ashley voice in well with alot of these songs. Even though she has a great voice (apparent on Hottie and 5 x 5), alot of the ballads, her voice sounds really weak in certain spots, like when she's trying to go for that build-up in the song. Her voice doesn't seem to always hit those well.

Despite all the flaws, the album is not total garbage. It's a shame that Ashley's label kind of turned their backs on her, and canceled her project and dropped her. Even though it wasn't the best album, I'm still delighted that after THREE years, I FINALLY was able to track down a copy!! I'm still rooting for you Ashley, and I hopefully you'll get a chance to make another album!
