I received this book as a gift, and I have been in a job search for 9 months. I applied the strategies Kimberly Bishop has outlined in her book, and I am actively receiving responses from HR departments. The framework is easy to follow without overwhelming the job seeker. Chapter 5 on resume writing has been a very valuable tool for me. This book is fantastic!

I believe applying Bishop's advice will yield me a new position soon!!

Kim Bishop has been on both sides of the table and as a result has written an effective job-getting handbook for job-seekers at all levels. Jam-packed with tips and suggestions, links to online and offline resources and practical advice to calm your nerves and focus your search, this is the book for anyone who wants to get their next job early in 2011. Bishop understands the landscape, the hiring mentality and the tools you need to work the system in your favor and she explicitly lays out a fact-based game plan anyone can follow. Lots of these "get-a-job" books are full of self-serving opinions and motivational hype. This one isn't. It's realistic, practical, accessible and do-able.

This is a terrific book. I coach lots of people who are in-between jobs and this is one of the most approachable yet comprehensive books I've read. The author is an authority because she's been on both sides of the search, the job seeker and the recruiter. It's laid out well and has lots of great pointers and tips. Even if you think you have the job search process down pat, you'll gain a new tips and more.

The book was very helpful in organization and wording for a resume. Great for first time resume writing or re-creating yourself if you have been out of the workforce.

Met the author at one of her in-person sessions, then read the guide cover-to-cover. As someone who has been on both sides of the hiring process, I appreciated that she structured her advice within an historical construct: This is what the process is now, this is how it's different from before, and this is how you should change your practices (and your resume!) to address it. I found the guide's tone effective, non-confrontational, and practical. Have already mailed my copy on to a friend.
