I recently purchased this album, after owning Doin' Something (Soulive's third release) for sometime now. The energy in this album is amazing. I've seen Soulive live (highly recommended), and this album best illustrates their live performance. You only need to listen to one song on this album to understand what I'm talking about. Track seven is a live performance of "Right On". It is a ten minute jam that will make you "Get Down!". This song is what Soulive is about. Straight-up ripping, direct from the soul!

Soulive Gets Down,

Jazzy. Funky. Soulive really gets down in this raw instrumental. I love the Hammond B-3 sound, and I love Soulive because they incorporate it into excellent jamming and music that just makes you groove. This is perhaps my favorite Soulive release--they are all good, but I prefer this sound to the more polished and produced blue note records. Recommended to any fan of jazz, jam, or groove. One note that a lot of these compositions can also be found on other Soulive albums.

To my knowledge, this was Soulive's EP and now it has been re-issued with two bonus tracks.All I have to say is that this is one killer album. Just soul jams. And also to my knowledge, this cut was knocked out in one day! Man! This album is tight. The group works so well together. Any group who can get together one night and cut an album that same night perfectly, and produce products like this, is just meant to be together. Soulive is this example. This is where it all started. As they continue to grow, with ups and downs, you can always come back to this and know they knew how to groove!

I started with their 'No Place Like Soul Album' and worked my way backwards; eventually found this album. This has turned out to be one of my favorite Soulive albums. The best cuts are 'Cash's Dream', 'Turn it out', and 'Right on'. I wish I could have seen them perform 'Right on' live. Get this album.
