5.0 out of 5 stars BookHounds [...] December 31, 2010
Format:Paperback
First off, this is NOT a diet or exercise book. Yes, there are diet and exercise suggestions through out the book, but they are helpful hints and some lifestyle changes that can help towards that first step of taking action. Get Energy is all about figuring out what is blocking you from taking action and overcoming the hardest thing: taking that first step. I love that this makes it easy to do one little thing at a time that can make a difference in your daily life. Austin doesn't make you feel bad that you have bad habits, she tries to make you understand how each little thing can help you change for the better.

The book is broken down into bite size bits that are easy to digest and actually accomplish. Although I doubt I will ever look anything like Denise Austin, it is comforting to know that she has the same issues and problems that most women around 50 have and that at this time in our lives, our bodies are changing. I have tried several of the suggestions in this book when I am feeling out of sorts and they really do help. Even getting up and walking around the block can help change your outlook on life. Everyone needs this book and it will help your New Year's resolutions so much easier!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a typical exercise or diet book January 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
The first thing I learned from Get Energy!: Empower Your Body, Love Your Life is that Denise Austin is 50 years "young." Wow! She has been around awhile, so my expectations weren't very high for this book. I was pleasantly surprised.

I've read my share of diet books, so I was glad to see that this isn't a diet book, but focuses on how to get more energy (which, couldn't we all use?)

The book is divided into three parts. In the first part you take a quiz to find out what's zapping your energy (for me, it was that I wasn't exercising and have a demanding job). Part two includes tips for addressing the energy suckers addressed in part one. And part three includes a 14-day PEP plan, which I have bookmarked for later simply because I have way too much else on my plate right now.

Overall, I really liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Austin Provides Positive Energy - Are You Ready For It? January 21, 2011
Format:Paperback
Get Energy by Denise Austin is a book aimed at giving you extra energy in your life by empowering your body, and loving your life. Denise Austin is a serious source for motivation and really knows how to stay fit, healthy, and full of energy. The best part of this is that she actually does care about helping all of us with this too.

Get Energy is Denise Austin's newest book about having more energy. I don't know many people that aren't stressed or tired in some form, so this is a very timely book for our overly-caffeinated country.

Denise Austin gives very good advice on the types of energy, and how to have more of it. As she explains, this isn't a diet book or a workout book. It is instead just a guide to help you achieve a healthier life and have more energy doing so by making time for YOU.

I really enjoyed the different stretches and workout moves that Austin shows in the book. They are simple, yet very effective for boosting energy and they don't really take that long. If you don't have one of her workout DVDs, this would be a very helpful guide on some quick moves to do.

Austin writes in a very relatable way that gives the reader the feeling that they are being motivated by Austin herself. Get Energy is an easy read and if you implement the suggestions into your life, you will notice a difference - I did.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading and using Get Energy to bring more positive energy into my life. If you need an energy boost into your life too, this is the perfect book to help you do just that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book! January 10, 2011
Format:Paperback
I groaned when I got this book and thought, oh not another self-help diet lose weight book. But this really isn't one of those books. It's about total body health, inside and out. I loved the chapter: Recharge With People Power. Very helpful. The book shows you how to do one thing a day, and it is simple easy things, that will help you feel better. This book is probably geared for women who are in their 50's, and going through some bodily changes. But it helped me, at only 31. I love how the book is broken down into little sections that allows you to read a little bit, and then put the book down and come back later, and still not have missed anything. Lovely book.

4.0 out of 5 stars My favorite fitness instructor! January 17, 2011
Format:Paperback
Denise Austin is the high-energy fitness guru we all love. From exercise videos to weight-loss plans, she has been an authority in the fitness field for over twenty-five years. As a regular columnist for Women's Day magazine and a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Denise has inspired us all to take control of our health and wellness.

In her latest endeavor GET ENERGY! EMPOWER YOUR BODY, LOVE YOUR LIFE, Denise tackles the tough question that seems to be on everyone's mind...how can we get more energy? Dividing the book into three parts, she gives a step-by-step guide as to how to get the most out of each and every day. By simply defining what is missing in our lives and then designing a plan as to how to get it back, Denise removes all the stress associated with maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The highlights of the book include helpful exercises and healthy snack options. The Personal Energy Plan Worksheet motivates the reader to pinpoint what needs to be changed in order to achieve a healthy balance. By making the right choices when it comes to our health, these simple alternatives can make a huge difference. Also, the Energy Checklists hold the reader accountable for achieving the day's goals.

Even though GET ENERGY! EMPOWER YOUR BODY, LOVE YOUR LIFE focuses more on the mind, body, and spirit aspect rather than her signature fitness program, Denise does offer insightful tips that will motivate and inspire those readers looking to energize their lives by making a healthy change in 2011.
