5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Strategy Guide
I've owned many scholarship books. I usually find them useful in finding where to apply. However, this book was different. It has a lot of scholarships, just like the other books. But the whole first half was actually on how to win scholarships. It changed my whole prospective on how I apply to scholarships. The tips and strategies were easy to read and I put many to use...

2.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but there are better
Free Cash for College is an okay resource, but there are definitely better books on the market. I find that "How to Go to College Almost For Free" by Ben Kaplan to be much more readable even though this book seems to have ripped-off a lot of the ideas from that one--I mean honestly, the "Scholarship Myth" idea seems to be outright lifted from the Kaplan one! Also, "The...

But the whole first half was actually on how to win scholarships. It changed my whole prospective on how I apply to scholarships. The tips and strategies were easy to read and I put many to use in my own applications. This is what makes this book different. It's the only book I've read that contains concrete advice on how to win scholarships. This combined with the listings makes it the best I've read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book -- I'm Using It Right Now!, November 6, 2001

I have both Get Into Any College and Get Free Cash For College and I also heard Gen and Kelly speak at my school last month. I highly recommend both books. I used their admissions book to finish my applications and I have just started using the scholarship book to find awards and apply.

The advice is clear and easy to follow. I like the fact that there are a lot of examples of applications and essays. The scholarship book also has lots (more than I can apply to) awards and many chapters on how to write a strong scholarship application.

Overall, I am very happy with both books and recommend them to any senior who is going to college or needs scholarship money.

I've looked at a lot of scholarship books, and this one is by far my favorite. There's a very helpful directory of scholarships. I found many scholarships that apply to me. But even more than that, this book motivated me to find scholarships and put my heart into applying. I've won $2,000 in scholarships so far and think I have a good chance at winning some more. The authors have a way of making it all seem do-able. If you want to be inspired to take some action, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Useful Book!, March 3, 2001

This is a fantastic book. I found it well-organized and filled with useful advice on how to win scholarships. The indexes are well designed and thought out. This made finding scholarships both quick and easy. I'm a Freshman in college and already I found over a dozen scholarships to apply for and I'm sure there are many more that I could apply to if I looked some more. I have used a lot of Internet search engines to search for scholarships but I find books much more useful. Besides a huge list of awards this book also has great how-to information on how to win. In the strategy section of the book each chapter guides you though everything from the essay through the interview. This is a great book. Thumbs up.

Also, "The Scholarship Book 2003" is much more up to date than this one. If you're going to buy multiple books, don't get this one since it recycles a lot of ideas from other books that are written better.
